Just came back from a few days attending classes and trade show in Vegas. While there they had a bikefest going on. By the time I left on Sunday, I was so tired of hearing loud ass pipes on cruisers (mostly harley but japs also). There were a few locals on sport bikes, but road pirates were everywhere. Some of them were so loud they would drown out everything on the strip. When I was younger there used to be laws against too loud of cars and bikes. Has the influx of middle aged cruisers made the law turn a blind eye. Many a time I remember the $20 ass chewing for running open headers or too loud of exhaust. I think I will stick with my stealth fjr. Junior

can't speak to every state - but I know for a fact that NV has laws against loud pipes. they have laws specifically banning "Unbaffled" pipes and they also have a law that mandates maximum sound levels at different rpms and distances (to test equipment).

I'm less solid on the facts, but I remember something like -

dB(a) testing

50 feet from roadway perpindicular to it.

Maximum dB rating at 50% of maximum rpm when being ridden by the test equipment. don't ask me what the number is - but I think it is something like 98 dB.

But the "no baffles" I'm sure of.

don't ask HOW I know.
