One of the nicest things about the Valentine One is that your unit is never an orphan. They will upgrade an older unit for a modest fee and the turnaround time is very fast. I bought one in 1999, and have had it upgraded twice. I bought another one recently so that I could stop shuffling back and forth between truck and bike. Don't leave home without it. FJR is a serious radar target with its pair of huge headlight reflectors.
Valentine One is without a doubt the most reliable radar detection available. If someone is running in the oncoming lane with their radar on, you will generally get notice a LONG time before they can read you. If they're set up in a blind ambush, you will likely get a decent warning when they hit a car in front of you and the V1 picks up the reflection, but if you're the only one on the road, you could get zapped. Smart to stay in the right lane when you're the only one on the road. They may not even think to turn it on and you might skate through.
Laser is harder to defend against since the beam is more narrow and picking up reflections from other vehicles is really iffy. Still, Valentine One is good at this too. Probably the best defense against laser is to run in the right lane. Laser requires a static platform, so they have to be stopped, often on the left shoulder somewhere. They'll be targetting that left lane for the folks cruisin' past everyone else. Follow at least part of the law and stay in the right lane except to pass, and you're less likely to get picked off by laser.
