I had to do this:

V1 is a radar detector. Radar detector extraordinaire, to be exact.

Subheading: V1 Remote Display

Linked to the V1 install in the first sentence of the article

If you're asking what a V1 is, then it's one of the most popular radar detectors discussed on this forum.

I've been looking at detectors for the first time. The V1 and the passport. With the remote display, can the unit then be almost anywhere? And is the valentine only available direct? I like the idea of the remote on the fjr.

Any radar detector has to be mounted where it can "see" the source. Mounting it inside a metal box would block radar and laser. Mounting it in a tank bag (or saddle bag) would block laser but not radar (but could reduce the sensitivity to radar). You can dope out the rest from there.

The advantage of the V1 is its dual antennas and it's ability to not only count the number of bogies around you but also point out where they are (hence the name radar LOCATOR).

V1 direct is the way to go. If you call they sometimes will have refurbs for a slight discount.

If you try to buy used (if you can find one) ALWAYS get the SN from the seller and check with Valentine to be sure it's not stolen and that you will be able to xfer the registration to your name after buying it.

I have had my V1 for close to 5 years now, but had to order some parts yesterday. I was AMAZED that they still had all my information in their (Valentine that is) system ,and they said they could not sell me the items I needed until I provided them with the serial number off of the main unit. No big deal since I had it with me, but still interesting.

I should have the V1 set up for the ride out to NAFO. If I had taken the time to set it up last year, it might have saved me $168.00 on the ride out to CFO. Damn WI is brutal.

One of the nicest things about the Valentine One is that your unit is never an orphan. They will upgrade an older unit for a modest fee and the turnaround time is very fast. I bought one in 1999, and have had it upgraded twice. I bought another one recently so that I could stop shuffling back and forth between truck and bike. Don't leave home without it. FJR is a serious radar target with its pair of huge headlight reflectors.

Valentine One is without a doubt the most reliable radar detection available. If someone is running in the oncoming lane with their radar on, you will generally get notice a LONG time before they can read you. If they're set up in a blind ambush, you will likely get a decent warning when they hit a car in front of you and the V1 picks up the reflection, but if you're the only one on the road, you could get zapped. Smart to stay in the right lane when you're the only one on the road. They may not even think to turn it on and you might skate through.

Laser is harder to defend against since the beam is more narrow and picking up reflections from other vehicles is really iffy. Still, Valentine One is good at this too. Probably the best defense against laser is to run in the right lane. Laser requires a static platform, so they have to be stopped, often on the left shoulder somewhere. They'll be targetting that left lane for the folks cruisin' past everyone else. Follow at least part of the law and stay in the right lane except to pass, and you're less likely to get picked off by laser.

My eyes are getting old and it was hard to see at night which LED was kicking off, so I had it modded.

Did you do that colored light mod or the factory?

Them labels are too little, but I suppose the different beeps are key.
