I plan on it. Thought I would head down to Florida see family then hit the AMA Races at Barber got my tickets and will be camping. Then Laughlin heard something about Yamaha putting on a big breakfast for owners at one of the major hotels. I want to see Oatman and area but think I will just pass through and head up to Death Valley try to avoid the crowds. Have a friend to visit in CA then I will just take my time head back to IL If you see IL plate ONE 50 on 04 FJR say HI.

No interest. I did Hollister a few years back. Wada waste of time. If I wanted to see tons of gay-*** tats, I'd give Bounce a call. If I wanted to see saggy ****s, I'd give radman a call. If I wanted to see dikes on bikes, I'd give skooter a call.

:D

Well, we could come up with a game based on the style, diversity, etc. of the "Leather Peacocks" strutting around, standing next to the H.D. they trailered to the, uhm, gathering/fest/whatever.

Y'know, that is a rather acerbic attitude by me. The real shame of it is that I have friends who are motorcyclists who choose to ride Harley Davidsons. They are "riders" who used to head to Sturgis every year, but no longer attend because of the "rubs", etc., who trailer their bikes to the motel and pretend to be riders all week long. Even my friends don't care for the poseurs. What a shame, but that is the image that sells that type of bike. Real motorcyclist ride, and ride together regardless of bike brand. These large meetings are certainly not my cup of tea, but I'm glad there are those who enjoy them.

There is that Leather Peacocks image again going through my head.

"Real motorcyclists ride and ride together, regardless of bike brand."

That would make a very good t-shirt slogan!!

I went last year. As a ride, it sucks. From Orange County, 5 hours of sheer boredom riding across the desert. As an event, it's borderline not worth the effort. Expensive hotels, you're packed in something fierce, and no day-riding to speak of. Oatman is at best somewhat interesting, on a different weekend when you're the only one there.

If you've never done so, ride to Sturgis if you want to experience The Big Rally thing. 3 days of awesome riding to get there, tons of good day riding, and way more elbow room.

But read the Death in Daytona thread. Always a concern; ride safe everyone.

Oh common guys its fun. You ride to Oatman from Havasu passing broken bikes all the way. I made a bet with my friend last year from the ride going back to Havasu from Laughlin. If I find one Jap bike pulled over for repairs I will by you dinner. Well we did find one " out of gas" Had my FJR go into that emty stage gas gauge the other day. Wanted to see what it looked like. I am confused is this gauge showing me how much farther I can go or what. My connie's gauge when showing empty, I would still have 2 plus gallons of fuel. I never went to reserve. When you are in Oatman you can see the entier town invaded by HD's. They line both sides of the main street and rev there bikes. I am still confused why thats fun. I quess after riding one of those things for a while, thats the only thing they like about it???????? The ride to Oatman is fun old Route 66.

Hmmm . . . they both sound interesting. My wife and I talked about going to Laughlin. But I didn't know about the racing in Fontana. That sounds even more interesting. :)

Lots of Harleys, for sure. This was originally a Harley-specific event. Metric bikes can get in, but expect some resentment.

Funny scene: Needles to Barstow is about 140 miles. No problem for us. But those choppers and customs can't pull it. So coming back Sunday morning they were pulling off the freeway and 100 deep in line at 2 gas stations in Ludlow, a rathole maybe 50 miles short of Barstow :bleh: .

Hasta la vista, "bros"

Hey Blueman,

As a former Havasupian :haha: , I have been to the Laughlin River run several times! I liked it until the hells anglels ruined the whole event at Harrahs a few years ago.

So, Whats your best time around the island??? LMAO

Adam

The first day I got my FJR ,the first five miles was around the island. As you know the first half is turn offs to Nautical Inn ect. Could not turn the throttle their. Thou on the back side I found out for the first time just how much I love this machine. I really don't give a **** about the Laughlin Run just thouht I could see some other rides then HD's. By the way I had just left Harrahs that year about 20 miniutes before the shooting. To bad those idiots can't shoot better. "Hells Angles population control. I would give then all the weapons they need, put then out in the mohave desert and have at it. One of the major T.V. stations could produce and air it and call it reality T.V!

I would also say that Jamacia would be a blast at 2am with all the curves around the golf course!

Then out to "Desperate Thrills" (Desert Hills) and run London bridge road out west to 95.

I was there last year and could not believe all the stop lights on 95!!! It takes friggin forever to get through town now!

I would bet riding up to the hualapais (sp?) out of Kingman would be a fun ride too.

I miss it out there... But the Missouri roads are KING!

Although the Laughlin River Run does have it's high points...

My favorite close to town ride, is ride south 20 miles cross the parker dam to california side. Then ride north up to Black Meadows, 10 miles of everything. The California side to Parker is always a blast if the Man or Snowbirds are not around also. These are fun early morning one houir rides I enjoy.

You know a guy invites you to his backyard, don't trash it. I've been to Laughlin a couple of times. It's a good time. Hell one trip my buddy was hot at craps and paid for our trip. Laughlin is ilke Sturgis or Mardi Gras. You need to go at least once. Don't take the kids though, this is big people Disneyland. the idea is to go have fun. I would stay in Kingman myself.
