I have the LD Comfort shorts, long johns, and long sleeved shirt. I kinda prefer the long johns in the heat of summer...suit doesn't stick. ;)

Do ask yourself if you want to go with shorts or not. It sounds counterintutive, but the tights that cover your whole legs are better riding IMO than just the shorts....yes even when it's hot!
This.

I've got 2 pairs of the shorts and 3 pairs of the tights and 3 pairs of long sleeve shirts.. Tights + long sleeve shirt wins hands down. No contest. Ridiculously comfortable and not uncomfortably hot, but quite warm when the temps drops. I wish I was wearing them right this moment.

One thing i found with the LD Comfort bottoms is they run a bit small (not bragging), I'm talking about the waist area. According to their sizing chart, I should be wearing a medium. Felt like I was wearing a belt done up way to tight. The large fit me much better.

Best underwear on the market....period. They're the foundation layer and best at keeping the skin dry, warm in cold weather, cooler in hot weather, and comfortable all the points between 16F and 116F. They're FAR more than 3-4 times better than the cheapies. And that's after having done a variety of Iron Butt Saddlesores and BBGs with the cheapies.
But, I'm biased. I hold the record for longest amount of days wearing the same set of underwear....11 days of an iron butt rally....a record I have mixed feelings about being proud of.

Other time I went ahead and swapped with a second pair I packed.

I have always worn the tights also, but am considering trying the shorts … Hmmm?

My problem with them in extreme heat is that once I start to sweat in them, it feels like a large ant hill crawled in them and itches like hell. I have to stop and take them off. I'm sure the crazy high humidity here doesn't help any. Other than that, they feel like heaven. :)
PS: it's just the long ones that do that. The shorts never do that. :)
Vic, We live in the land where a bead rider of some type is a must .. AIRFLOW !!!

Powder also works, and in the boots too.

Have you tried giving Mario a shout? He seems to be all about American made quality and also customer service. With a handful of buddies we own dozens of articles and all holding up nicely (no, I don't share undies with buds). I've only lived in Mojave Desert for a couple years and I wear LD long sleeve shirt and long legged pants. I zip all vents on stich and wet undergarments. Nothing new but since it was asked. If it's going to more than a couple hours I will bust out a cooling vest or another set of LD sleeves that are easy to soak. I did a BBG3000 cross country with 30 of the 43 (5 hrs rest) hrs riding over 100 degrees. Because stops only every 3-4 hrs, cooling vest held more water for evaporative cooling. For IBR, I never needed more than the LD undies.
Josh, we are talking "Humans" here … You are an animal !

LD comfort plain rocks, but in heat put the beads on the seat.

I'm really curious what makes them better. Can you expound, please? I've been curious but I cannot imagine they're that much better than any other athletic compression shorts of the same material as long as the seams on them aren't in the wrong spots.

I'm no scientist or anything like that, lol, but the LDComfort stuff isn't the same material as your average compression shorts...I think LD actually shies away from the whole "compression short" thing. The cloth has a distinct inside/outside and the wicking effect is fairly noticeable. No seams in bad spots.

The material.

The stuff they use IS different than the mass produced "wicking" stuff. I know it's easy to say something "will keep you dry", but wherever they source their material (I've been in their warehouse and seen rolls of it on pallets) is from is totally different than UnderArmour or the others...let alone run of the mill Spandex in compression shorts. I love Mario to death and its a bit like watching an infomerical doing his

, but he's sincere and it really does what he claims. Or this link and the parts underneath...particularly the one about moisture.
I bought a set and the claims of his demo came home to roost when I went from 116 degrees of Palm Springs to subfreezing that night in Flagstaff.

They are thick, the fly is a little weird, and they probably do fit different on different people. I also know the two staff ladies they use for templates and *think* the fitting for women *might* be a bit better than for dudes. However, the dude that makes them is a 60's logger from the PNW turned motorcycle rider in the 90's. Yes, you look like your grandfather when you wear these things, but that material is the real magic part of this product.....

Yep -- well worth it -- no more monkey butt. Exactly what RFH says. Iggy recommended them to me, but I'm not about to go +1 ing a story about living in his underwear -- bad visual imagery and olfactory cues there.
All this discussion about tights reminded me of this. Only thing missing is a handful of Shuberth lids and you'd swear you were watching video from a past WFO gathering.

Another LD Comfort shorts rider here. Did at least a dozen consecutive days in them ofr atleast 6 hours/day ( I know, CBA certified) and they worked as advertized. Great wicking performance and no wrinkles or irritaing seams. I thought I was nuts to spend $50 on a pair of underwear but after riding 9000+ miles in a month I knew it was a wise purchase.

Thanks for the info. I'd always thought they were made of the same type of material as other brands of similar products. I may need to try them... then again, I think that I'd be better off not riding in extreme heat.

Hey, it's all about looking like a porn star.

Oh wait, I AM a porn star.

Oh, the LD shorts work good for them long Candy Butt Association rides too.

Like 123.7 miles in 12.35 hours.

Now then, would you all like a link to me modeling a size medium set LD shorts?

OK, all this talk about LD Comfort has prompted me to dig my LD Comfort shorts out of the closet for another try. First I will have to give them a call and see what they have to say about my Roo-Fly coming unstitched the first time I used them. Going to their web site and finding that they call their unique fly a Roo-Fly reminds me of another reason I wasn't fond of these shorts. It seemed like every time I stopped for a pit stop with these LD Comfort shorts little joey was peeking out of the Roo-Fly on his own.

Heidi, if you're going to Bob's tech extravaganza, remind me and I'll show you the shirt (same material).

Aaaaand another LD Comfort fan right here.

I think my first road trip with 'em was for SFO in 2009, so I was on the road for something like 10 days with only my LDC undies.

They're great - like RFH said, just wash 'em in the hotel sink with some hotel shampoo before going to bed and they'll be mostly dry - yah, like someone else mentioned, there may be some residual dampness along the seams but it's no big deal, really.

I have something like 3 pairs of shorts, a pair of tights, and a long-sleeve shirt. I use the tights and shirt as a base layer under my Transit Suit when it's cold out. For the rest of the time, I wear the shorts and some kind of a wicking t-shirt up top.

The stuff works great. It's not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

A little drying tip for those who find their underwear still a little damp in the morning. Drape them over a lamp shade with the light on and they will dry quickly. I've done it with socks and undies many times.

I thought everyone knew this. I give mine a quick wash and roll then on the lamp they go while out & about for food and beverage. It also helps to pack 2 clothes pins in your toiletry kit- then you can hang them from the lampshade so air circulates all around. If you do this hang them from the leg hem not the waist. Trust me.
