With over 350,000 miles on FJRs I've seen this before but it had been a while. Upon arriving home from a trip to Chicago recently I had the dreaded splooge all over the rear wheel. It was NASTY. Almost as bad as mi ******* step-daddy's underwear!

BTDT. It's been about 100,000 miles since the last time I had to replace final drive seals so I guess I am due. Funny thing is, I cleaned it all up and have put just over 3,000 miles on since then and no more splooge. Still, I'm sure I'll need to get to those seals sooner than later.

Damn, Skoot...leaky FD, leaky fork-cap seal....

'bout due for a new FJR, ain't'cha????

Gregg, the soft ear plugs will fit in that drain hole and will keep the bike clean while you find time to fix it. I've tested them for about 11,000 miles with no problems.

Mine is covered under warranty but I didn't want to take the bike in until the rains [Pacific North-wet don't ya know] came.

I dunno, I've had it come and go less than that, but on occassion I notice it when changing the tire the last couple of years / 50k miles. Been fortunate that my decision to ignore seems to be working. I do check or change the final drive oil every couple of 5k oil changes with no indication of problem. I thought it was more the (excessive) grease on the hub spline inside being blown out.

but that's no more than my 1.5 cents worth

Not grease, final drive oil. There are four seals and one big o-ring that could be the culprit, but since it's coming out the swingarm weephole it's one of two seals, either the one on the end of the driveshaft, or most likely, the one in the gear coupling.

I am not worried. It's done this before. Clicky for the first time it happend. The first time it would come and go over about 70,000 miles before I had them replaced. In the 350k miles of ownership, I've had the seals replaced three times so far. No biggie. Seals occasionally go bad. Except in the most rare of cases, they don't catastrophically fail so I am just not that concerned. Just a bit of a mess. And as I said, whatever weeping was occurring seems to have subsided. At least for now.

That's because all the oil has drained out

:p

Click on the link to my first episode of the splooge. It just takes a little oil to make a big mess. After I returned from the Chicago trip I changed the final drive oil as at 17,000 miles since last service, it was 1,000 overdue. Plenty of oil in there.
