I had a ninja a short time back. had LED lights. Caused hyperblinking. I really liked the fast blink rate. Very good attention getter. Will the FJR hyperblink with LEDs

They are easy to install and come with directions. You just need to decide where to put them.

I believe rapid blinking is caused by too little resistance in the circuit. When switching to LEDs, you need to add a resistor to compensate. If you disconnect one of the turn signals and activate the turn signal switch for that direction, the icon on the dashboard will blink very rapidly. It's the same thing.

So if you use a pre-wired LED board and want it to blink more rapidly, you can replace the resistor with a different one, from what I understand.

If you're talking about brake lights, some of the LED kits for brake lights are designed to blink. Just putting LEDs in will not cause blinking brake lights by itself.

I installed a Back-Off XP controller that causes the stock brake lights to blink. They make 2 models, one LED compatable, one not. Read their reasons on their website, resistance as Potential stated is one of them. I had Hyper Lights on the Beemer I traded in on the FJR, was going to install them on the FJR but decided to try the Back-Off for several reasons.

This is the answer the original poster is looking for.

The reason that LED turn signals flash very quickly is usually because the circuitry on the vehicle isn't seeing nearly the current draw that it's expecting and makes the assumption that one of your lights must be burnt out. It'll then try to notify you of this fact by blinking very rapidly.

So yes, I'd expect that LED turn signals on the FJR would indeed blink very quickly unless some other modification to the circuit (such as an extra resistor) was made.

Sorry I should have been more specific. i was referring to the blinkers only. I have ordered th ehyperlights for the brake/tail light. But I liked the hyperblinking blinkers. I understand about the resistance. Doesnt make sense to save a little power and then add resistors to use the power (very little I understand but its still power saved) Plus I liked the hyperblinking. Made my little ninja very visible at lights. I will be ordering led blinkers/marker lights soon. Thanks all.

Yes they will hyper blink, led lights has very low current draw, you will need a resistor on each blinker, you can get a pair on e-bay for $10.00

Richard I am considering the back off feature with either the regular lights or LED. What were your reasons for going with the back off system?

This is a copy of a PM I sent last week to another person with the same question:

1. Even though the BackOff XP was $5 more than the normal BackOff, I chose the XP over the std issue because the XP can handle LEDs if I ever need that option in the future,

2. the XP was 1/2 the price of the HyperLites, 35 vs 90,

3. the XP wiring looked simpler, all is hidden in the rear compartment , the Hypers need exposed wiring that I didn't want to do to this bike,

4. the stock wiring on my '08AE's rear lights is SHORT/tight. I can NOT remove the 2 brake light bulbs, the wires are so short I can't get more than 1/2 of the bulb out of their 'holes'.

So the bottom line for the BackOff was #3 & 4 above, then # 2 clinched the deal.

Plus in my PM, I forgot to write that I had seen to pocket rockets with similar brake lights as the FJR get on their brakes at the same time. Those big 2 lens blinking are so much bigger than the 2 little Hyper add-ons!!
