There are many things I don't understand.

I thought the board might clear one up for me.

I've noticed many times when people post pictures of there bike online they obscure the license plate.

I can understand why you wouldn't want your ssn, credit card numbers or bank accounts available to the general public but what's the deal with license plates?

Aren't they generally in full view whenever your motorcycle is in public?

The only time I can think of that it might be beneficial to cover a plate would be if you are committing an unlawful act.

I was taking some pics of my bike the other day and I thought maybe I should cover the plate. Then I wondered why.

Sorry about the typo in the thread title.

I actually know how to spell question.

I just don't know how to edit the title.

Some people are more paranoid than others? Used to be in a lot of states you could go to DMV, pay a small fee and get the address from a plate number. Not so much any more.

I know a few instances where pictures were on the net and someone other than the original poster/bike owner copied them and ran a fake bike for sale scam. Scammies might use the plate number to attempt to find their money, only to locate the real bike owner that had nothing to do with the scam.

Personally, I feel that on the road, most people have no idea who I am. I'm just a guy with gear on riding a bike. Here though, I have a personality. Maybe even a personality that pisses someone off, or makes someone think they would like to see the inside of my house.

On the road, all people know is the bike (or truck, or car...Whatever). Here, little things come out piece by piece and maybe someone has an unhealthy interest. Do I really want every criminal on the internet knowing what type of MC I ride and where I live? It's still not that hard to run down a vehicle's owner. I know someone could follow me home, or could be watching just to see what I drive, but I feel (hope) those instances are less likely. A little paranoid? Probably, but I'd rather not deal with the frustration.

That's part of the reason I'm not too fond of posting up my full name, or tons of pictures of my face. You can look around, and notice that there are no pictures of my kids' faces (except one newborn) and few if any of my family. I just don't trust the internet, and anything posted can never be recalled...Maybe stupid, but it is what it is.

I prefer to spread disinformation than obscure. I'm not really Ignacio nor am I Matt Watkins. I'm a leggy blond hot chick that rides a GS1200 (that's gone through only two final drives) and despise the FJR.

You wanna see a picture of my license plate?

You lie like a rug. We all know you're not really blond.

That's right. I understand there are pictures.

It wasn't the nudity that was scary, it was the brazilian trim! :bigeyedsmiley:

After seeing Bust swimming or snorkeling in the snow naked, the thought of seeing any more forum members in that condition may start causing irreversible damage!

I'm just saying!

I forgot to mention that I too have covered or obscured my plate number when posting pictures on the internet. And yes, its easy to find information on people if you just know where to look and you don't even need a SS#.

Hey, I saw "Gone in 60 Seconds"!
