Absolutely no FJR content. Not even any motorcycle content!

Last night I was on the way to the store for needed supplies (down to two rolls of TP in the house....) when I saw flashing and flickering in the sky up to the north. I drove to the northern shore of the little town here and set up, but I was apparently 15 or 20 minutes tardy, as I only got 4 really iffy shots. I shifted my view to getting traffic streaks on the nearby bridge with long exposures, and that didn't really work, either. Not much traffic at 9:30 on Sunday night, and I was too low to see the road, anyway.

Then BAM!!!!! I got this shot!!! A two-fer!!! Tail-light streaks AND lightning!!!!

(For camera-curious, 15 seconds at f:11 and ISO 400.)

Man that's a really cool picture! Very nice indeed.

However, I can't believe you didn't get the mosquito under the 3 light in focus.

Awesome! I've always wished I was a better photographer. Jealous of those with the skill to pull this stuff off.

It's obvious you've cut back on the caffeine, great hand held shot! ;) Good capture, now stay up late tonight to get us some meteor shower pics for us lazy types.

It's hard for most people to appreciate standing behind a camera with an open shutter hoping to get "the shot". Like panning for gold and usually getting black sand but every once in a while, a nugget! Well done sir.

Holy Cow!!

Dude - you're good, no doubt. But a little luck mixed with good, is GREAT!!!

The meteor shower will be tonight--the 12th--and it's one day before the new moon=very dark skies. So any of you camera guys, and especially if you live someplace high and isolated (*hint* *hint*, John) should take the above advice and show us what you get. Best after midnight.

Cloudy here. No sky shooting tonight!

Although....... I did shoot the Geminids last December from the beach at our state park. (Darkest place I could get without going 40 or 50 miles and trespassing.) This is a composite of the meteors I got that night over about 90 minutes, maybe longer. It's by no means a single exposure!!! I used an 8mm fisheye lens. The "slope" at the bottom left of the frame is the dune to my left. The faint bluish (greenish?) dot at the bottom edge near the right corner is a channel marker out in the gulf, marking the approach into the bay here. 26 meteors are in the frame, including some dim enough to almost not be visible, so I circled them. Two of the meteors don't appear to actually be Geminids: the bright on at the top center, and the one at the dune in the bottom left. Their lines don't point back to the smae radiant point as all the others.

Was really looking forward to the Perseids!!! Stupid weather! (Although the Geminids happen at a more reasonable time of the night.....)
