Well said, Fred. (was that the name of a band?) I'm a big advocate of LBS - even more so when hooked into ABS.
I believe that was "Right Said Fred"...but you were close.

:guitar:

My attempt at humor... I shall stop.

My VFR showed little or no dive, so BMW's acclaimed suspension may not be the end all to anti-dive... ;)
wasn't it "Drop Dead Fred" or was that a movie?

Linked brakes are good for a sport-tourer, I like the 'lazy' factor -- just squeeze and push, and the bike takes care of the distribution of braking. Unlike sport bikes or on the track where linked may not be such a good thing, I believe linked is fine for this bike.

One wish -- why don't they just put a bypass valve or something so you could un-link? THAT would be cool.

ABS plus linked brakes was a major plus in the decsion to purchase the FJR. I can go to a parking lot and pratice emergency manuvers and braking, but how do you pratice panic I'll take all the help I can get in that department.
What one does in a "normal" situation is what one will do in "Panic Mode". So, if you practice full-on braking by "progressively squeezing" the brake lever and continue to concentrate on that during all of your stops (as well as practice it during your everyday riding), when it comes time to do an "Emergency Stop" you should theoretically do the same thing because you've trained yourself and your nerve/muscle responses and you will know the limits of your brakes.

Or so I've been told! YMMV.

Last weekend was acid test of '06 fjr brakes for me. Guy suddenly cut into my lane and i hit the brakes-mostly front brake. in what seemed like forever - i envisioned the brake locking and me dropping hard. all i remember was a little jerking, no lock and incredibly fast, upright safe stop. Incredible braking system!

Yep thats it, no time to think, just sh*t your pants ugly.

The most anti dive front end was one used previously on BMW. Earls Forks the front end actually rose on the brakes. They also mad for a sllooowww handling MC.

My FJR has the wilbers and negligable dive under braking. TJ

Interesting.

I have the full Wilbers set-up and still have plenty of dive under braking.

It's from that high COG produced by that big fuckin' head, nimrod! :D

Seriously, have you made adjustment to your front suspension yet? That would help with the dive. I'm getting close to an ideal set up for me and the dive is minimal compared to the stock suspenders while using both front and rear brakes.

But after "de-linking" the top two pucks on the right front caliper from the rear brake actuator, you'd STILL only have 6 out of 8 pucks doing the job up front. You'd need to create a fluid passage of some sort from one inlet on the front-right to the other, or just toss the whole shebang and put a set of these on:

At least he posted something this time. There was another 2-yer-old thread he resurrected with just a quote, nothing said!
