I was bleeding the rear brakes this morning because they felt a little mushy the last few times I rode. I bled the rear res. from both the front and rear brake calipers. Was able to extract some air and now they feel great. Obviously, the rear is linked to the front since I bled fluid out from the rear res. to the front caliper. When I was done (with bike on center stand) I spun the rear wheel with my hand and mashed the rear brake, the brake engaged and the wheel froze. Released, then spun the wheel again with my hand and mashed the FRONT brake and rear kept spinning. I expected it to stop the rear wheel. I thought the front was linked to the rear as well. I guess I really don't understand the linked brakes, front to rear that is. How does that work?

Thanks,

Linked back to front only on FJR. Front lever operates only thee of the four front caliper pistons. Rear lever operates rear caliper and one of the four fronts only after a proportioning valve threshold is exceeded, so light rear braking will only activate the rear.

The rear brake pedal is linked to the lower set of pistons on the right caliper. These are ONLY activated by the rear brake. There is no front-to-back link.

Edit: Fred types a bit faster than me.
