Given the number of people coming to NAFO from far away places, I thought it would be a good idea to post up some contact info for the local bike shops. I for one will likely need to buy new tires before heading back home to FL.

A big thanks to Colorado Dave for kindly providing me with the details below.

As such I was wondering if the NAFO organizers have contacted any of these or other bike shops?

James,
Several good shops in the Denver area -- I'm closer to Colorado Springs, so I use Apex Sports in the Springs, which is a very good dealer, but not close to Golden.
I have quite a few friends in the Denver area, and they use the following:
Rpm Motor Sports (303) 232-7576 1251 Wadsworth Blvd, Lakewood, CO

I would call them in advance and confirm that they have a tire for you.
This would be a good question to post on the forum for the NAFO organizers. With this many folks coming to town, I would think that they would be in touch with a couple of the local dealers for support for the event (I do a Gold Wing event in Montrose in western CO and work with the local dealer there to ensure that he has plenty of tires available -- even more important for an FJR event since those tires do not last as long).Dave

Great info. Thanks, James.

Admins: Can James' post be pulled and pinned as it's own topic? Should make it easier to find. Thanks.

Shouldn't Colorado Power Sports be added to this list.

They are listed on the NAFO Web site as our hosting shop and sponsor.

Just a thought.

I'm down in Denver today for work. Just met a guy on a new '08' he picked up at Vickery Motorsports and it sounded like they treated him very well. I've always heard good things about them. They sponsor Yamaha racers (at least they used to) and have a good reputation, even up in Cheyenne. Never had a need to use them you know how the word of mouth thing goes.

I'm still not sure who would be the preferred shop for a new tire when I get to Golden. I think my front is going to be getting marginal by the time I get there. Any of these shops running rally deals like free mount and balance?

I called CO Power Sports yesterday to ask about getting tires while I was out at NAFO. With the free install, their price for a set of PR2's was OK, $450.00 OTD, but nothing to write home about. What was the deal breaker for me was that I couldn't make an appointment to get the tires changed while I waited. They said it was strictly a first come, first served basis. I just don't want to spend a half day sitting around waiting for tires to be put on.

Still, I appreciate them stepping up and sponsoring the event. If my tires wont get me home, I may have to bite the bullet.

no appt sucks, but at least they have them in stock...wonder how many sets they have ... I have 4,500 miles on mine and while they appear to be in great shape, I'll be adding miles getting out there, during the event and returning home..

Maybe I'll call my yocal lamaha dealer and find out what they stock. :)

No, I don't think they have them in stock. After hearing the no appointment deal, I pretty much lost interest.

I have about 4k on my PR2's, and if I can nurse them all the way home, they could have as many as 10K on them. We'll see.

FYI, Performance does NOT install tires, but they do have a list of shops close by that do.

You guys are more brave than I am. I've never gotten over 5,000 miles on a set of tires. I have 2200 on mine now. I'm worried about making it back to and from Denver from OKC.

The Tire Stop in Boulder Co. will mount tires even if you did not purchase them there. The Bob owner is a Harley guy who got tired of getting jerked around by shops so started mounting bike tires. They do a good job.

There's a decent chance I'll need a new front tire during NAFO, I picked up a nail on the freeway today, figured it out before it got too bad thanks to my Smarttire system, and got it sticky-string patched on the side of the freeway with a thunderstorm bearing down on me... It got me the 60 miles to my hotel, and seems to be holding pressure at the moment. We'll see how it looks in the AM.

Bought my last 2 FJR's here and had all my service performed by them. In my opinion they are the best Yamaha dealer in the Metro are for reliability, and knowledge. Jack in the service department is easy to work with and friendly.

gr8eyes,

I couldn't help but notice that you are a fellow Okie biker and thought I would see how your tires performed. I'm sorry we didn't meet in Golden.

I had 700 miles on a new Metzler Roadtec Z6 (rear) when I left for the BMW MOA meet in Gillette the weekend before NAFO and it now has 5,700 miles and I feel sure it will make at least 8,000 miles. I had the front Roadtec installed in Spearfish, SD when the front BT020 had about 5,000 on it. I felt it could have made it a total of 6,500 - 7,000 miles but since most of my riding is out of state, I didn't want to take any chances. My orginal Battlax's didn't last very well so I switched to Metzler which have held up very well for me on other scooters. I run the max. pressure plus 2 - 4 lbs., front to rear.

Let me hear how you did.

I had to get a front tire while in Golden. My Pilot Power 2CT was cupping real bad. I do not know exactly why...as I maintained the pressure at 40. As best I can honestly tell, I never rode it under 40..that I know of. Maybe the fjr is too heavy a pig for that power sport tire. Anyway, it was to the point I did not want to risk riding back home on it.

Matt advised me to contact Co Power Sports, I looked up their # on the morning of 7/25 talked w/service manager Greg, he told me to come in right away and he would take care of me..so I did...and he did.

I was there about an hour and a half, they installed a new pilot road front, no charge for the install, but the out the door price for the front including tax was a touch over $170.00.

A little steep, but not real bad for a dealer installed front for a guy in a pinch. Decent price and realitively quick no hassle service.

TFOG Wheelsports certainly helped me out alot.

After the SS1K, I must have been hallucinating 'cuz I swear that rear tire of mine looked fine. Later that afternoon, after a nap, I distinctly saw that cords were showing. (Gremlins must have taken sanders to it while I slept! ;) )

Anyway, three o'clock on a Saturday afternoon is not the time to realize you need a new tire.

DonC suggested I call TFOG and I'm glad he did. Great service, reasonable price and I now have a PR2 on the back of my bike.

Big thanks to Jeff & Becky!

I hear you Chris, I think they must have followed me to Colorado. After being unsuccessful in my attempt to "borrow" a tire from someone in the Denver area (SEE HERE), on the recommendation of a local friend I ended up at Grand Prix Motorsports in Littleton. They were selling ALL Dunlop tires at 50% off, so I got a Roadsmart rear tire for $121 if mounted there (was about $200 mounted, balanced, shop fees, taxes). They worked me in on Friday, saying to expect about 3-4 hours, but had it done in one. They were also very attentive to my plea to be careful with my SmartTire monitor mounted on the wheel, and the cruise-control speed sensor pickup on the rear-axle pinch bolt that needed to keep the same gap in place. No problem. :D

FWIW, the service manager said he'd heard nothing about NAFO taking place in the local area. Go figure.
