Mike,

I kind of wimped out to today and only rode for 460 miles in 93 degreess (cool for Texas)!

I have wondered sometimes if a rider's size is the biggest issue with most seats. I am 5' 11" and I weight 165 pounds. A hard seat like the Corbin actually feels good to me but I know most others claim the Corbin is way to HARD for their, ummm...., tooshies :haha: !

Best Regards,

Shane

I've done several 700 mile days but not together. I don't think consecutive 500 mile days would bother me at all. I have a Rifle Touring W/S & stock seat. Best of luck.

On my way too hot '03 FJR I immediately put Gen-mar bar risers and the Corbin built Yamaha opt. saddle-easy to do 500-600 miles. As plush as a GL1800? Not even close, and yest the 1800 is one amazing huge motorcycle when the roads get twisty....almost unbelievable that a bike that big can handle that good plus provide superb comfort.

It will be interesting to see how my '06 FJR compares now that the bars and saddle are adjustable...maybe I can save some aftermarket $$$??? Altho I will be very surprised if the stock saddle supports me as well as all my different Corbins have on various bikes. GR8 saddles, IMO, comfortwise...lousy dimensional accuracy for actually fitting the bike it's supposed to go on. Come to think of it the best fit I ever had was on the '03 FJR..gee...Yamaha insisting on realistic tolerances for mounting??? DFO

designeraccd,

Agree on comments about the GL1800. If touring is your only goal in riding, it is by far the BEST bike going.

Best Regards,

Shane

Shane, where you from? I'll be going thru east Tx tonight and tomorrow. Staying in Tyler tonight and be in Jasper tomorrow, then back to OKC tomorrow night.

RE: saddle time. I did consecutive 950 mile days coming home from Idaho last year and I was worn out. I then got a Mayer seat and felt great after a 500 mile day.

Shane,

I'm 5'9" ish and about 175 lbs. I find the stock (05) seat a litteral pain in the ass. I've done 500 miles on it, but wouldn't want to do so again. I'm now running a leather Corbin "close" saddle and regularly put on 800 miles in a day ride without any major issues.

Get it, ride it and see what bothers you. For some, handle bar risers are a requirement but the seat isn't a problem. For others, it's the other way around. Still others will have other weird ergonomic issues... all can be fixed if you're willing to take the time and effort to do so. The three main pieces that helped me handle distances were the saddle, unwinding the main throttle spring (supposedly addressed by Yamama on the '06s) and a throttlemiester cruise lock. Everything else is just gravy. ;)

Glenn,

I am in Bryan / College Station - about 175 miles east of Jasper down Hwy 190 / 21.

I will be going through Jasper on Saturday / Sunday on my way to New Orleans - let me know how the gas situation is that way.

Maybe we can hook up sometime - I will be on the A&M campus tomorrow otherwise I would try and come out that way.

Best Regards,

Shane

Since I have another 8 months BEFORE my FJR1300AE gets here, I figure I have time to harden my ass up :D !

On my Gl1800/A, the Corbin is still hard as ever and it doesn't bother me. I would purchase a Corbin for the FJR, but Corbin's customer service has already burned me and I won't give them another dime.

Regards,

Shane
