It sure does. I think many of the commuters hate us. But, this week I have had a 100 percent increase in people moving over to give me more room when splitting lanes. I like the freeway signs. :clapping:

Oddly enough, I did also. Until this morning; this morning it seemed like all out war. I was wondering if there was a full moon or something? Then I stopped for coffee and read the paper. Made me wonder if this article had an affect on the braindead zombies using the I-5 corridor.

Interesting reactions after the body of the article. I liked the signs very much, and sorry to see they're ending them. Maybe a little more public education is in order for signs like this, something like "OK for Motorcycles to Split Lanes" or "Motorcycles OK in Diamond Lane." So many drivers just hate the thought that they have to wait and we get to move through the traffic jam. Of course, the more bikes doing that, the fewer cars would be lined up in the traffic.

Anyway, it's good for all of us to have these attitudes brought to our attention. Might make us a little more careful, I hope. As one comment (from a rider) said (to the cagers): "When you make a mistake, it kills us! When we make a mistake, it kills us!" My bike sports a bright yellow bumper sticker on the top case I got from the MSF booth at a recent m/c show. It reads "YOUR CAR CAN KILL!" I keep hoping somebody will read that and not kill me.

By the way, I LOVE splitting lanes, but never when traffic is moving at any kind of a decent pace, and never more than 10, maybe 15 mph over whatever speed it's moving overall.

Have these same signs here in the Bay Area of California as well.
This article is about the responses from San Diego motorists, not the signs. Oddly enough, CALTRANS got positive feedback from all counties, EXCEPT in San Diego County. This article is about those responses. Strange sheet in our water down here, I guess. Even stranger crap on our roads...

Now here is a completely different approach/solution to the problem

Good stuff, Maynard! Now if I can only get a feejer mounted version.

When I tell people I commute by MC, often the first words out of their mouths are, "Are you one of those guys who goes up between the cars?" Then they proceed to tell me how much they hate that, and how it scares them, etc. There's no question in my mind that people in cars are largely contemptuous of motorcyclists during rush hour. But when I'm in traffic, I pretty much never get any sense of anyone's behaving aggressively toward me. Cars either stay put or move out of the way. People don't try to squeeze me off.

Neil - Good post. I thought some people might think similar things to this article as I watched motorcyclists zoom by at great speeds. I imagined some drivers passing by the signs as a motorcyclist does something stupid and what they'd think.

The fact I really like SD and riding down there, I may have to think twice about coming to your hood. :dribble:

I like that Caltrans has posted this message. Good on them all. ;)
