My 2006 still runs perfectly but I am kinda looking to upgrade if I can find the right deal. Nothing too high mileage though. I am in Canada but so was the 06 when I bought it in 2008...

Dave

There was a "Root Beer" color available in Canada as well. Beautiful in the sun... (and you won't get it mixed up with someone else's bike at a rally in the US)

(Might have been on an A, not ES)

Good luck - haven't seen much in the way of great deals on Canadian Gen III bikes.

While there are some amazing prices south of the border, the Canadian dollar sucks too badly right now. When I got my '07 (in 2010) from someone in Connecticut, dollar was close to par.

Too bad you live in Canuckistan. I will soon be parting with my 2000 mile '14 FJR garage queen.

Fast Joy Ride - if red is your color, then don't sit on one. Your search will be over. DAMHIK.

Skooter - dude - what gives? If you need garage room, get rid of the Gen 1.

Dave, I'm in Canada as well. How hard is it to import a US bike? And to change display to Km/h?
Can't say about the km/hr thing for the Gen III - can't on the Gen II I bought 8 years ago but wasn't a major issue.

Some reading for you. I haven't looked at this stuff since I bought my bike so don't know whether anything has changed. The first is a "fresh" link. The others may be old or new...

I had to pay GST at the Cdn. border and PST when I registered it. (no PST in Alberta still?)

I did not have to pay duty.

You will have to pay a RIV fee - Registry of Imported vehicles

You need a recall clearance from the manufacturer that certifies all recalls are done

You need the title

All paperwork has to be provided to US customs well before bringing the bike across (72 hr, maybe)

Bike will have to be "inspected" in Canada before registration.

Not that complicated but you have to be prepared.

Alternatively, you may be able to pay a dealer in a border town to do all the crap for you.

Good luck.

Garage space is NOT the problem. I have a new house that can hold TOO many bikes! Already having four FJRs is the problem. I picked up a '16 ES in December and really need to thin the herd.

You don't want gray or black? I understand. Not everyone is awesome enough to qualify for the Good FJRs.

Greg: PM me when you are ready to move it out, There are flights to PHX every day! Do you have it farkled at all?

Some of the used asking prices above are high enough to buy a left over brand-new 2017 (Blue) in Canada!

When the Canadian dollar was sucking less compared to the US counterpart, buying in the States and importing into Canada was worth the hassle and the import fees (RIV) if you found a decent deal. I did it with my '07 back in 2010 when the currencies were close to par. Now, not so much.

Unless you are close to the border, I don't think you could take advantage of an existing "YES" warranty either - not 100% sure but I don't think you would get anywhere with a Canadian dealer with a US "YES".

I hate reading threads like this. Here's why:

1. I LOVE my '14. I simply love the color.

2. My '14 has 43,000 miles on it. It's just broken in but in 3 years (if I have any say over it), it will be pushing 100K.

3. Right now, I'd want to have another '14. Every month, finding one in great shape with low miles gets harder.

4. So I could pinch Greg and make him give away (er.... sell me) his '14. Moth ball it and keep it for 3 years from now.

5. But what if the '19 FJR comes in a color I can't resist? What if it has those few touches/improvements that we all want Yamaha to do? What if.......

What if........

As with poker, when in doubt, fold.......

Get in line Pants - Skooty and I go way back and I'm sure he will give me first dibs!

Getting a US bike into Canada is tedious as explained by others above, but not difficult. After you select a port of exit/entry you have to provide the US exit port with 72 hours (or more) advance notice of your arrival and email or fax them some of the paperwork in advance. The Canadian side of the border is cake - you just present all of the US exit paperwork and pay them their 5% GST.

The recall work on my 2006 (very little) was all done at Desert Powersports giving me an excuse to go play in the Palouse (Dan and his people there are great folks btw). Yamaha USA sends the recall notices to whomever is the registered owner. I am sure YES would work the same way but I have never purchased it. Canadian dealers are unable to get paid for doing warranty work on US bikes IIRC, and might or might not have the same problem with YES?
