I want to say, "Don't you think that's kinda ________?, not saying "double standardy", at tonight's local city council meeting, referring to them not following the rules they make for the general public.
TIA, TC, community activist.
contradictory?

Believe me, when you're talking to a city council, board of supervisors, sewer commission or similar organization, you want to use one-syllable or two-syllable words, and simple sentences. There will be some members who won't understand more lofty language and will resent it, and even those who do understand seem to have such short attention spans that you're much better off not testing them.

You might call their attitude "two-faced." Or you could accuse them of "double-talk."

Or:

You could just call them "lying fascist *******s." Or "a bunch of sniveling, double-dealing commie queers."

So what did you do and how did it work?
Got tied up shopping with Eve and the Diva, which preempted the meeting. I'll be in touch with staff this week, and hopefully avoid having to go in front of them next time I'm off for a meeting.

My issue is about noise. In five years, I've called in on two of my neighbors prior, once for incessantly barking dogs at 6:00am and once for firing up a lawnmower at 6:30am on a Sunday. Both times, an officer was there within five minutes and the noise stopped. A while back, on a holiday, garbage trucks started in just after 6:00am. So I called. Nothing changed. Christmas week, garbage truck at 0620. Went out, yelled at the driver. He said they let them start at six. A couple of days later, there's an article in the paper about the same thing. They work weekday holidays, and they are allowed to start at six. The drivers are usually done by noon. Must be nice, getting paid a day's wage to do six hours worth. Now, the city wants to float another tax increase in the spring. Did some research, they don't have a noise ordinance, but deal with complaints case-by-case. According to the general plan, updated in 1993, they set a goal to adopt a noise ordinance. I'm planning to start pushing them to action, and proposing quiet time to end at 7:00am, just like in neighboring Fresno, garbage trucks included.

Then, maybe I can get something done about the Harley noise-makers.

"Inconsistent treatment" is the legalese the Coleman lawyers came up with for "double standardy" Full Story

Try living in Minnesota during the winter. Snow removal equipment is run at all hours. That means if you were my neighbor, you might hear an eleven horse snowblower at 4:30 in the morning.

The snow has gotta be cleared and I've gotta be at work early.
