https://www.cycletrader.com/find/listing/1966-Bmw-R50-2-97679689 I am looking for a FJR Forum Member living near Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania; Hannum's Harley-Davidson. Could you please check out this BMW R50/2 for your old Papa Chuy. Start it up and if the weather is decent, take it for a ride.

[email protected] or 480-440-4666 Cosmetics and completeness are more important than mechanicals, even though if engine is sound-so much the better.

https://www.cycletrader.com/getmap.php?address=1011+W.+Baltimore+Pike&city=Media&stateabbr=PA&zip=19063 Their map shows the location as Media, PA.

Now that's a BMW. It would look good in your fleet.
I hear you loud and clear, Ray; this R50/2 would look good in my fleet! I'll buy a Yuengling beer and a Philly cheese steak sandwich for anyone that will check out this Beemer for me.

Cool bike. Maybe re-post as the Philly/Wilmington area to get more recognition?

Don, consider getting some close up photos to make sure there're no corrosion stains, as the road departments use LOTS of salt here on the right-hand coast.

Thanks Checkswrecks, changed it; a lot of the /2's on the west hand coast have corrosion stains if they lived within five miles of the beach; I resided in Morro Bay, California and my 1966 BMW R60 developed corrosion stains, was Bayside on the Pacific Ocean.

I'm about 40 minutes from Hannum's, but I can't get there until at least Monday. I'll be happy to check it out for you.

Dear Greg, Thank you so very much; take your time! But, don't go out of your way or let this interfere with your Holiday preparations. If there is an Applebee's or Olive Garden near your house, send me your address to [email protected] and I will mail you a Dinner Gift Card for your troubles; for helping your Papa Chuy out!

As previously mentioned, if the weather allow you to ride it (no snow or ice), that is fantastic. If you have never ridden a BMW /2, do not be surprised when you shift gears, it will sound like the transmission is going to fall out of the chassis; they are supposed to sound that way - Deutschland rock crusher four speeds from Munich!

The absolute most important thing to me are the visual cosmetics and being complete. I will be displaying this Beemer in my living room on a mirrored platform; will only be ridden on Sunday's; it's an artpiece work for my house! Here is what it looked like when it left the Bavarian factory back in 1966, with the solo seat option installed:

Here is the bike with the factory optional dual pillion saddle mounted:

View from the front, note that turn signals on the handlebar end mounting was an optional item; it may not have any turn signals and that's A-OK with me:

I have a lot of trouble believing your fat ass will fit on a seat that small.
Buon Natale, Merry Christmas; johnny80s, Ya *** Bastard!

Greg-gregarious: Please call Hannum's at 1-888-768-1795 before you go to look at the BMW, I just looked at the ad this morning and it now reads: SALE PENDING!

I may have missed this one, but there are other /2's out there; and I'm in no big rush, the right one will come along. I'll also give Hannum's a call, when they open up!

If they'll let me, I'll ride it, but it is scheduled to be in the 20's all next week, so they might think I'm crazy! (they might be right!).

..and be careful when kick starting it. The lever folds away from the bike, sideways, not typical like most bikes. And, be sure the kick start lever has fully engaged the internal gear set teeth - sometimes this model has been known to 'bind' when the teeth don't mesh, and lever won't move at all. You put all your heft into it, and either your knee or internal high dollar parts get broken.

I'd really be surprised if the owner lets you ride it.

Don S - have you looked at:

1. 6 volt, not converted to 12

2. Keys for gas tank pouch

3. Has engine been sitting or have the oil slingers recently been cleaned?

4. Has the ignition been changed from points (oem) to aftermarket?

All of these items will affect price.

Brother Greg, I just got off the phone with Salesman Terry Brennan of Hannum's HD; he is working 11AM to Close on Monday the 13th. The bike is a customer consignment bike, the seller is not a regular at Hannum's; he is a friend of one of the shop mechanics. TB knows nothing of the history of the bike other than it having 23,846 miles on the odometer. Two BMW Enthusiasts have already dismissed it, because it is not completely original and not totally complete. Terry B. mentioned it has the wrong exhaust pipes for a factory stock BMW R50/2 and has a number of dings and chips; this may turn me away from this Motorrad also, just let me know how severe the body damage is. Please do not ride this bike if the conditions are too dangerous to ride! Living in the Southwest, I don't have the foggiest idea of what 20F degree temperatures are like; back side of the Moon to this Zonie desert rat!

Mr. Brennan says it runs well, start it up from cold and see how it idles and revs up. Remember, you have to "tickle" the carburetors before starting; there are two push buttons behind the throttle cable going into the top of the two carbs, just depress them until gasoline flows on your finger. Full choke with quarter throttle and then kick down on the starter pedal, on BMW's the kicker swings away from the centerline of the machine. I will have access to my cell phone of 480-440-4666 and my laptop at [email protected] If you call me, I'll ring off immediately and call you back; saving any long distance charges to you! Hannum's promised me they would call me ASAP if the machine sells today or tomorrow, so you will not make a trip from Glenmoore, PA for nothing. We have already established a contracted shipping price of $600 to Chandler, AZ.

I'll give it a quick spin when I get there. I've ridden in the 20s before. Thanks for all the information from yourself and other members. I'll call you on your cell when I'm there to make sure I'm checking everything you want to check.
