Howdy. Doing 3 Flags this year and it looks to be a hot route this year. I am wondering if anyone has any good (and simple) suggestions on how to block the heat on a 2005 FJR (short of buying a 2006 or newer, or removing the tank and installing heat shielding/barriers under the tank).

I am thinking along the lines of good heat shielding for the outside of the tank, or to wear on the pants (maybe Aerostich makes some gadget), or clip on air venting that would route heat away from my inner thighs, etc.).

Thanks

Ummmm, if you figger a way, please let us know. ;)

you need the heat shield under the tank and some foam in the edges of the plastic, at least thats what i did...

it did help.

Do these three things. Install Frost King foiled back insulation on the bottom of the tank using foil tape. Remove the two rubber inserts that are attached to the T-bar under tank. This will let out the heat build up between the tank and engine. Install the Cromit Fix heat shield under the left side panel. This deflects exhaust header heat down and away from your left chin. All these fixes can be found with a search of this forum. Detailed instructions on the Cromit fix including a pattern for the heat shield is located here also.

I spread my massive thighs wide apart in a futile act of trying to channel some much needed cool air to my boiling crotch.

Slowing down about 10 mph really seems to help too.

I almost filled my tank bag with ice last week.

IIRC, there have been mixed reviews on removing the rubber inserts.

And, search on "Baker Air Wings."

Oh please, where is Friday?

I need to ride one of them Gen 1 some day to see just how bad they are - can it be worse than a 79 Kz1300 6 cylinder?

My yam- kaw dealer said the same thing. How bad can it be?

My experience on my '04 = smittys or speedzone tank blanket, Left side Cromeit heat shield-very easy and worthwhile, good foam around the right side panel, and trimming the left front plastic inner diagonally for more air works well. I have just the tank blanket & foam on my recently attained 05 and it's quite liveable.

I doubt you will get anything from Moneybags Smitty and he is working all the hours he can right now.
