Medic, sorry to hear this. I heard it on the news when it came out and was just in shock. Are people totally blind this days. Sorry again.

I can only echo everyone elses condolences.

My two closest freinds are firefighters in Deerfield Beach, Fl. I know quite a few firefighters, they are all stand up guys. I'm sure this guy was a good guy too, something this world really needs more of....

An unfortunate loss...

From Chicago Tribune.com

Visitation for Grant will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 W. 103rd St., Oak Lawn. His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Christ the King Church, 9235 S. Hamilton Ave., Chicago.
You can shed tears that he is gone,

or you can smile because he has lived.

You can close your eyes and pray that he'll come back,

or you can open your eyes and see all he's left.

Your heart can be empty because you can't see him,

or you can be full of the love you shared.

You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,

or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.

You can remember him only that he is gone,

or you can cherish his memory and let it live on.

You can cry and close your mind,

be empty and turn your back.

Or you can do what he'd want:

smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

Hang in there, EM. We've got your back.

Thanks everyone, sorry for the lack of response. It's been a really long few days here w/ a TON of stuff happening recently. I've been bouncing back and forth between doctors offices just to get cleared to return to work, trying to get bike stuff settled and now going to wake tonite and review tomorrow and then funeral day after that! I really hoped I wouldn't have to go to another one of these, especially another person I knew. Lost another friend in similiar situation 4 yrs ago, that time 2 engines were racing to scene of another ******** call and collided at intersection. He was working for suburbs and was almost at his one year anniversary on CFD.

Any death is one too many, but most of us understand if it's at the scene. OTW to the scene is the most dangerous part of this job.

Bad **** happens to good people, Evil. Been there and am really truly sorry for your loss.

Question: If it were you, what would you have wanted your friends to do at this point?

Personally, but unforunately no longer legal, I want a keg at my feet and my head w/ some maiden, megadeth and some other bands in the background. My dogs should be in the line w/ my wife as well. And no keg is allowed to stand empty. Also, a big *** bottle of JD right next to each keg for those that don't drink beer.Instead of funeral cards(?) shot glasses w/ name and dates.

I honestly believe wakes and funerals are too depressing for all, it definitely should a celebration of the life lived not the life lost. I'd much rather think of a funny story about someone while crying than think about them in a coffin. I just hope when it's my time I'm doing what I like. Perfect death for me, flying off a cliff on my bike at 85 yo 30 mins after bustin' a hell of a nut. Heart attack while bangin somebody ruins the whole thing, I'd rather enjoy it for awhile.

Oh my... I am so very, verry sorrowful reading this. It brought back a ton of memories for me. I lost my brother, a firefighter on the Chesapeake Fire Dept 11 years ago this very month to a structural fire. I know the hurt. Keep your chin up my FJR brother.
