After a sudden drop down to the 50's I decided to see how the Feejer felt in those temps.

Boy, I was pleasantly surprised... The 'Heat Issue' has turned into a positive discussion! After 2 hours on the bike it felt quite good to have warm feet & warm legs even though I specifically didn't 'bundle up' for the ride.

This is going to dramatically extend my riding season and allow more comfortable long trips.

Hey who said the heat is a problem. It's a feature !!!

:good:

I completely agree with this post. One man's trash is another man's treasure.

yep i see that you are in Delaware and I'm in Michigan. I have much appreciated the OEM heater many times.

Our summer (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) sucked this year (3 encounters with snow/sleet/slush between June and October) - over 30,000 km on the FJR and heat has NEVER been an issue.

My '03 was remarkably comfy in 50 and 60f temps, warm in the 70s and way too HOT in the 80s...didn't even bother to start it if it was 90 or more. OTOH the much more powerful ZX12RI had was tolerable even in the lo 90s, so was my ST1300.

That said, I'm sure hoping that the '06 A I have on order has indeed addressed/fixed the heat issue. My Gerbing electrics (just enuff of an alt to use them out on the road) do an excellent job of keeping me comfy down into the 20s for 2-3 hours. I'm in northern Ind and mostly ride in southern MI. The border is maybe 5 minutes from my house so it does get a wee bit cold around here. Izzit March yet? Where's my Cobalt Blue FJR1300A...gunna be a l-o-n-g Winter! DFO

Huh.

I live in the Arizona desert, and I ride my FJR daily. In temps up to 115-120.

90 degrees is cool to me, relatively speaking. FJR heat is a non-issue to me.

So sorry, but I just cannot comprehend what you are talking about.

Hope you have better luck with the 06.

 You need to take a Valkyrie for a ride...HOT :fire:

My 05 FJR is cool compared to the Valk... ;)

I have to say, it is nice for a change to hear the heat issue turned into a positive note. I too, recognize it for what it is. The FJR throws allot of heat. For what it`s worth, not all FJRs are the same(some are cooler than others) ...just like not all people are the same (in terms of the their body`s response to heat). For those who "can`t comprehend" the issue, we must accept the fact that this(heat thing) has been a very real experience for many, that cannot be dismissed. After all, why would Yamaha address the issue in the `06 design? Once the reality sets in, the individual can adjust to suit. That is moving forward (and not being hung up on the issue)! I for one, enjoy riding the FJR in the spring and fall the most. I also have added the heated grips and man, do they feel great...I highly recommend them for you cool weather riders. If you think about it, for many bikers, there are more cool days than hots days on the calender ...depending where you live ofcourse! There you have it...heat is good...can`t be any more honest than that! :assasin:

Briefly made the mistake of owning a Valkyrie; to me a very disappointing Honda. OTOH both GL1800s I've had were superb motorcycles: reasonably fast, unbelievable handling and strong brakes, very good weather protection...all in all if one wants a full bore touring bike...magnificent. Of course if one desires more performance the FJR will provide it. Like I stated I sure hope the heat issue has been resolved, if so and if my new hip functions properly I'm hoping for a long, happy relationship of many miles with my '06 A.

Given the 75...or izzit 76?...bikes I've had the '03 FJR did leave a lasting + impression, hence I'm willing to spend more $ in hopes the '06 has fixed the one negative issue I had.

BTW when I was stationed on the Mojave at 29 Palms, CA. the 100+ heat didn't bother me either. Now that I'm again long used to Midwest weather/temps....hi 80s and hi humidity..no thanks! Say about 70 with lo humidity...perfect riding day. DFO

Come on SkooterG, I live in The Desert as well and you know every degree above 112 you can feel. But I agree the heat is not really an issue but some passengers have said they get a bit warm.

This is my first Arizona winter with my FRJ and I did notice the last week or so the 5:00am ride to work has been a bit cool but the FJR's built in heater is paying off.

Just think, some guy's pay for heaters, we get em at no extra charge.

Hell dude.........(pun intended :D )

I can feel every freaking degree over 100! And once it hits 105, well then I stop paying attention cause its just freaking miserably hot out.

But riding my FJR in those temps does not add to the discomfort that is already there.

schuswaper -

I never said I "can't comprehend the issue". That's putting words in my mouth. :nono:

I just couldn't comprehend designeraccd's assertion that due to the FJR's heat, riding was:

way too HOT in the 80s...didn't even bother to start it if it was 90 or more.
And that is based on the riding I do every day.

Nor did I insult him or cast judgement on him, so lighten up Frances.

And now he has posted again clarifying things more.

I spent several years in AZ and remember saying "oh good, it's only supposed to be 114 tomorrow" (Compared to the 122 at the time).

Currently in Kentucky, the OEM Heater has made the early morning commute quite comfortable when those around me thought it was too cold weeks ago. :p

You PUSSY! j/k We get close to 100 degrees here in the summer and it's not that bad. All bikes give off heat in stop & go traffic, but once rolling I hardly notice it. Now when the temps drop, I'll be hoping for that heat! lol

Left the house this morning and it was dark and 40 degrees F. The heater felt very nice on my ankles but I'm still planning to get me some motorcycle pants very soon. Not sure I'll need insulated ones for the FJR though. I used to ride naked bikes in this temperature but I can't do that anymore. I assume that the protective pants will also protect my legs from the heat in the summer.
