I haven't seen anyone comment on this yet- though there was some mention in the Yammy literature.

But the engine is really geared much differently (at least from the 2003!).

Crusing along in 5th gear at 70 mph the engine purrs along at just barely 4,000 rpm. In my '03 FJR I seem to remember that it would be closer to 4,500 rpm.

The new sound has been commented on by several folks with a richer deeper sound.

Ditto, my 05 FJR indicates 4,000 rpm in 5th at 70 indicated (68mph GPS verified)

Easy to say 4,000 rpm at 70mph, nice round numbers, and I thought that's what my '05 did__til I really looked carefully and it was 68 mph. Maybe the '06 is a little over 70.

That much hair splitting will last me for awhile!

For all five gears the RPM ratio is:

'06 RPM = 0.973 x '05 RPM

@1000 RPM, difference = 27 RPM

@2000, diff = 54 RPM

@3000, diff = 81 RPM

@4000, diff = 108 RPM

@5000, diff = 135 RPM

@6000, diff = 162 RPM

@7000, diff = 189 RPM

@8000, diff = 216 RPM

@9000, diff = 243 RPM

I put 300 miles on mine this weekend and I agree with tstaff. I drove 70 most of the time and was running around 3600-3700 rpm. My friend was on his 05 FJR and was running around 4000-4100 rpm.

4,000 is right at 79 mph on the 06.
Ya better get that speedo checked, It's readin' to fast :eek: or yer yanking some chains <_<

:jester:
No yankin', that's what it reads.
FantasticJohnR say 70mph at 4000rpm

tstaff says 79 yes 79 at 4000rpm and both are on 06's so who mistyped?

OK, this thread is a little out of hand as all topics get on this site:

I think it is safe to say that they're really isn't much of a difference :D

I checked mine really carefully.

The 06 at 75mph indicated, (haven't checked it with the GPS yet, is right at 4,000 RPM. At 80 it is approx. 4,200. This is about 500 rpm different than my 03. According to the literature, it is supposed to be about 5% taller than previous years, which is about what my observation tells me.

From a "seat of the pants" observation, the bike feels smoother, and much less busy at 80 than the 03 was. At triple digit speeds, it just doesn't feel like speed at all. I'm thinking maybe I should just mail my license back to the DMV and save the hassle... :rolleyes:
