In a pinch you can lube a very few more exposed items, such as the sidestand, using a spray can lithium soap grease. Attempting to do a thorough lube of the shifter, or other difficult access components pretty much requires dis-assembly, otherwise it'll just make a mess.
Some moving parts, such as the clutch mechanism pivot, usually benefit as much from cleaning as from lubrication, and the only way to do a decent job is to take 'em apart.
I lube my throttle cables using a cable lube spray and fitting. I wrap the thing in a rag during the process, to prevent overspray.
