Does anyone have experience installing Aerostitch Luggage Loops or Bungee Loops on their Side Bags?

I'd like to mount 4 on each bag to make it easy to strap on sleeping bags or whatever.

Does anyone have a drawing of how the latching apparatus works?

I'd like to not ruin the bag latching apparatus while I fool around with things that should probably not be messed with.

Thanks

They are double walled are they not? If yes I wouldn't do it. They will crack and there is probably nothing you can do to strengthen them. I was thinking of adding these to the bottom of my PCA rack for strapping.

People have done it using upholstery washers. The bag is double walled, but it seema those that have used good wide washers haven't had issues. I have not done it, so maybe wait until someone who has pipes in.

Big washers will do the trick. Just don't put too much stress on them and it'll be fine. Put them on the top of the bags so the washers are taking all of the load. Putting them on the sides with even a little stress will cause you problems. Good luck! :)

If you need to do that.... you either need a trailer OR you carry to much sh*t! You know there is always a Walmart and you know, you're not going to the moon!

The solution is to use a small hole saw, just large enough to pass the washer.

First, from the outside, drill holes for the studs to locate the loops, clear through to the inside.

Then, with the hole saw from the inside, drill holes carefully through the inner shell only.

Now mount loop with nut and washer bearing only on outer shell.

I agree with you, Huron. Just trying to minimize the damage if ljuggle still wants to try it. Worst case.... New bags will be on order. :)

Don't think I'd do this as there have been instances of the inner and outer shell adhesive separating. Other than the adhesive / hinge rivets, nothing else holding the halves together.

YMMV

I used their luggage loops on the side bags of my Buell S2T but those bags were only single wall thickness. I had no trouble in that application. I used large diameter washers on the inside to spread the load with a larger diameter rubber washer I made from an old inner tube between the metal washer and the fiberglass bag.

There is a spot for one on each bag in the middle area of the bag handle when it's closed. Send me a PM and I will send you a picture.

No leaks or damage on the '06' bags with 136,000 or the '10' with 40,000 miles.

Per Nieharts way

Did mine that way with the bungee buddies and no issues. 70,000 miles

BwanaDick has his through both side case walls. He used a coupler to extend the bolts and then secured with a nut and washer.

Haven't seen him here lately, but you could PM him to see if he's had any issues.

I go through the handels on the bags, but did mount some stainless flat loops on the hand holds by drilling and tapping 1/4 -20 threads and using thread locker, worked great. clean install.
