Manchester United beat Barcelona 1-0 in the second leg of the semi final last night. They now face either Liverpool or Chelsea who play tonight. It will be the first all English final in the history of the championship. It's recognised as the greatest club competition in the world and has only been won by United twice.

The irony is that if they play Liverpool, who's ground is 38 miles from United's or even Chelsea who play roughly 200 miles from United, they will have to fly to Moscow to play in the final.

Why Russia is the venue for a European Championship final I don't know.

It's 3 weeks today. A great day for British soccer......except that the teams comprise of mainly foreigners and there will only be 5 or 6 English players out there regardless of which teams play.

Congratulations to M.U. and British soccer.

You guys take that stuff seriously. I read a book sometime back entitled "Among the Thugs"... can't remember the author. He basically hung with/ became one of the hooligan type supporters for one of the teams. It was pretty frightening... they would literally take over a train getting to a match, drink like crazy, and beat up opposing fans. Obviously, this was a subculture and not typical of a supporter. I believe the violence has been toned down a bit.

My best friend and business partner is a co-owner of the Cardiff City Bluebirds FC. If they win the FA Cup final against Portsmouth, they'll be cleared for the UEFA Cup next year. He'll be completely insufferable then... ;)

The violence at club matches stopped in the 70's. There is a small contingent of fans who follow England abroad and try to cause trouble. That has been dealt with pretty much over the last few years. It's not something that makes the news much. A pity that it's what Football is known for abroad.

Congratulations to Man. U and begrudgingly to Chelsea, It is great that two English clubs have made it to the final, although I would have preferred England to have qualified for Euro 2008

FEEJ222, good luck to United

Go Blues! :)

Sorry 222, I lived in Chelsea when in London.... (pre-abramovich, mind you), so that stuck....

Should be a good game! Moscow.... didn't know that. Bit of a hike.
