Hmm, I might be able to make this since I canceled my plans for the 23rd. I'll be solo and will probably run up 49 to 108, then over the top and up 395 to 89 and back over to Markleeville. Does anybody know how long that should take? I'm gonna give it 4-1/2 to 5 hours and hope to meet you all for lunch.

From Fresno thats about 250 miles, so if you average 50mph thats 5 hours. I don't know the roads very well or how fast you ride so its hard to figure a time frame.

from Fresno to Plymouth its about 175 miles, I sure you could make that in under 3 hours. You could ride with us to Markleeville and after lunch you could ride home 108. Just a thought.

Either way I will add your name for lunch. :cownoy:

Bob, if you decide to come up 99 (for time's sake) take 88 in Stockton, make the left on 88 before Lake Commanche, L on 124 thru Ione (it "jogs" thru town) and make the R on 124 towaard Plymouth. 124 deadends into 16, go R and uphill where 16 becomes 49, around the bend (watch the 45 mph zone, they do patrol) and the Texaco is on the R.

You know that this is all making me want to join the fun. <_< It ain't looking so really good, though. (all references to the reason have been deleted per request by Skyway)

Ian, I've tried the "flying" idea, its the abrupt landings that are less than fun!

Thank you guys for all the info. I imagine I'll stick with the original route and give myself at least 5 hours to make it by noon. I don't like running up 99. It's no fun at all under 80 and it gets risky (ticket-wise) over that. 41 and 49 can be tons of fun at speeds much lower. Hope to see you ALL there (MM)! :D

Hey Bob -- I may ride Monitor Pass (89) with you Saturday morning. I have to play musical motorcycles between now and then, since my Blackbird is in Gardnerville and the FJR is at the Lake right now. I'm in the process of moving (over a couple months) down to Gardnerville and will probably stay there Friday night. BUT, I have to swap bikes today or tomorrow (Th. or Fri.) to ride the FJR with you over Monitor and have it for the Markleeville meet.

I'm thinking I may take another load of stuff down in my car this afternoon or evening and come back to the Lake on the Blackbird. Then, ride the FJR down tomorrow and spend the night. I could then meet you on the FJR at say 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at the intersection of 395 and 89 (or at the Casino at Topaz Lake a mile or two north of there, which has a gas station next door), and do the Markleeville lunch and ride. Then after the ride, I could go back to the Lake to drop off the FJR and ride the Blackbird back to Gardnerville for Saturday night -- since I intend to ride it for the MSF Advanced course in Carson City starting at 8:00 a.m. Sunday.

Check this post Friday afternoon or evening for status and meet up confirmation/arrangements, or if we miss, maybe I'll just give you a call at the number you left when last we rode together. I LOVE Monitor pass -- you picked a great route with Sonora, Monitor and Ebbetts on it!

EDIT to add: Thursday evening and the car is in Gardnerville, both bikes are at the Lake. I'm gonna ride the FJR to Gardnerville tomorrow, spend the night there, and will be hitting Markleeville Saturday via Monitor Pass from the east (Hwy 89). Bob -- let me know if you wanna meet up at the bottom of Monitor at 395 or at Topaz around 11:30 am on Saturday.

Yeah, I'd be up for that. If I get there early I'll head to the casino. At 11:30 or later (God forbid) I'll head for the junction and wait or meet you there. Why don't you PM me with a cell number so I don't have to try and locate that piece of paper in this turmoil that is my bedroom. gutsrus2k at yahoo dot com :agent:

You have e-mail. Your filing situation is far too familiar here, too.

I think on these rides that we should pitch in and buy the guy's lunch who came from the farthest away to play, since he has to buy the most fuel. Yeah, that's the ticket. Whaddya think, TWN? Maybe we could get WC to show up. "Free lunch?"

Well it's not looking good for me either. They are dragging *** on my bike for sure. :erm:

Bummer Sky ! I went to book my 26,000 mile valve check and the dealers are booked up one month in advance. Guess I'll do it after WFO <_<

Can't make lunch either guys, we have east coasters visiting us. :cownoy:

Okay, guys, where are the pictures? C'mon, rub it in. I didn't make it. I did get some more bike parts for Peak to Peak ride.

I packed the camera along but it wasn't the same without Bren there :( I ended up riding 225 miles of mountainous roads in four hours over Sonora Pass to meet Rich at the Topaz Casino fuel stop. Then we ran Monitor Pass and met up with the group in Markleeville. The wait for lunch was phenominal but the fellowship & conversation was good. The best part of it was that I heard no talk about "Forum v. Forum" Afterwards, we ran over Ebbett's Pass and onward to Murphy's, where we split up and I headed for home. Overall fuel economy was 44.6 mpg, must've been the altitude.

A great idea for a group ride would be to meet in Sonora, then run the three passes I did Saturday, then turn around and go back over 'em the other way and end up in Sonora again for dinner, or something like that. Thanks to all for making this a good get together. I just hope Dave (Dive1) made it home and didn't careen off a cliff running down those guys on the sport bikes. Boy, talk about gone!
