Day 7 Leaving Canada back to Maine

We head back home.

You will see that the route does not take us to Baxter State Park, one of the most scenic areas of Maine, and one of the favorite places to spot moose in the wild. Because Baxter State Park forbids motorcycles, I said the heck with 'em...

Saying goodby to a great host. Mitch and Tina and Hannah were fantastic hosts!

New Hampshire has the White Mountains. Beautiful!

Part of teh White Mountains is the "Presidential Range" which includes the highest peaks in the Northeast. Madison, Adams, Jefferson:

And this big fella, Mt.Washington. Snow on July 5!

We drove the Kancamagus Highway. Parts were fun, parts were scenic, mostly VERY slow leaf peepers drifting along.

Here we spotted a New Hampshire beach:

We saw a lot of these walk-thru bridges.

We saw only a few of these actual drive-thru bridges.

Finally made it to Vermont, met this big fella, representing the "Green Mountain Boys":

The Green Mountains are also scenic.

and then home.

We did a round-about tour of the Adirodacks on Day 9 and we zig-zagged through the Catskills on Day 10 on our way home for the last leg of the trip to PA. Ralph and Tracy would accompany Brent some of the way to Georgia.

Our first stop in NY was full of historical significance, and well preserved.

We went to Lake Placid. Ski jumps poking up through the trees still looks alien...

New York state has plenty of interesting and scenic spots.

Right in the middle of nowhere is Forstmann Castle near Frost Valley, used by the YMCA as a summer camp and big conference center.

Nice photo op just down the road - note we caught the Frost Valley waterfall caretaker troll on camera. She vanished a moment later:

And speaking of interesting places, this bridge is NOT just another covered bridge. It has a couple of interesting points:

Longest:

It is a two - sided bridge:

If you stand in just the right spot, at just the right time of day, with the sun and stars aligned properly, with the magic incantation,

Blenheim3.jpg

the space-time continuum suddenly becomes disjointed and you suddenly find yourself floating a foot above the bridge deck!

Day 10 was just the ride home. We went to Kaaterskill Falls in the Catskills but it was so hot there were people returning soaked in sweat who could not complete the climb to the falls. We elected to continue home and try the falls some other time.

End of trip report.

Next year might be Texas, Arizona, or who knows...

Glad to see you guys had a good time! You set the bar high when it comes to bike journeys. I have wanted to visit Nova Scotia by bike as well. Your ride report has really upped my interest and motivation, as well as other readers I'm sure. I have read your daily log and seen the maps and was bemused to see the Thomaston, ME FD picture. I am working in Thomaston and the Fire Dept. is right behind the https://www.thomastoncafe.com/ where I get my breakfast. I had my breakfast that day about 50' away from where you took that picture. Coincidentally, I was in Rutland, Vt sat. nite on a return trip from Solarfest a renewable energy fair just south of Rutland. Ride well and enjoy the rest of the season, Conrad
