28 days out from the Maupin Romp; the PNWFOG Fall get-together on Oct. 4th & 5th, I thought I'd post up a few ride suggestions for those not that familiar with the area, or are interested in joining up with others for a group ride. If anyone would like printable Adobe Acrobat versions of these maps and instructions, please PM me with you email address and I'll get them to you!

See you all soon!! :yahoo:

Hey Marty,

This is kind of semi-on-topic. Don't know when you were planning to check-in at the Imperial, Friday night perhaps? Some of us not planning on two nights out this trip [pullin' outa Bend early cracka'Saturday morning] will likely pull in to M-town reasonably early in the morning Saturday, so I was wondering if you've planned a Sat a.m. hook-up point/time? Or, were you just thinking everyone'll just do their own thing ride-wise on Saturday and then gather for grub'n'grog that nite?

That Willowdale Turn-off [of 97] to Fossil run is great fun, ...part of probably the most popular eastward short loop for Bend area day riders, Bend-Madras-Willowdale-Fossil-Mitchell-Prineville-Prineville Res.-Alfalfa-Bend, ...w/ a couple of options between Fossil & Mitchell.

Sure hoping we get a good rebate for the crappy Spring we had, and the nice weather holds!

This is definitely a "do your own thing, and let's get together for grub-n-grog at night" event. Too many interesting roads and destinations around that area to try (or even want) to turn this into an organized group ride.

Owing to a family commitment on Friday evening, Mrs. SockMonkey and I are not planning on being out to Maupin until around noon-ish on Saturday. We'll drop stuff off at the hotel (can't check-in until 3 anyway) and head out exploring. Be back at 5:00 in time to watch football in the bar, and then take-up space outdoors on the patio by the fire (by the river) with a bucket of adult beverages and a couple plates of BBQ. Nice. :yahoo:

I'm praying for our indian summer to continue so this plan works out. We'll be doing the same. I suspect I'll need to drop off the Mrs. before heading out to take on the twisties.

+1 on the bar after a 3 p.m. check in. My Ducks will be taking on USC and I want to make sure they're (my Ducks :( )not the only thing getting pounded.

Regarding Romp 4:

After leaving Warm Springs turn right just after starting up the hill on US26 onto NW Pelton Dam Rd. It turns into NW Elk Dr. Turn left onto SW Belmount Ln. This will take you into Madras. It's not fast but interesting and has some kinda fun single lane real tight steep twisties climbing up the hill from the reservoir.

I'm up for a three hour ride from Maupin to Fossil and back, but by going up the river and taking 216 and other roads over to 97, then taking Bakeoven road, back to Maupin on the return ride. It's 157 miles and takes in some of the best roads and scenery. River, canyons, farm land, neat little towns and barns.

I will be spending Friday night in Goldendale visting with friends and old co-workers. If some are interesting in meeting early Saturday and going for a ride (blufjr and Mooseonagoose), I can arrive by as early as 8:30 am to explore the roads and sceneary with new people.

Otherwise, I am planning a detour through Klickitat County and will likely arrive around noon.
