I just watched Top Gun again and realized he rode a slow ass Ninja 500. Kinda funny since most of us watched it as a kid and probably thought it was a fast bike. When he pins the throttle beside the runway hardly anything happens :lol2:

Sorry, but that wasn't a 500. It was an '85 GPz 900R.

And I don't think the 500 came out until 1987...or maybe it was an '87 model in latter part of '86. The fairing was also significantly different between the 500 and 900.

Damn Ignacio, You were paying Waaaay too much attention to the bike. I didn't even notice it. I was Paying attention to the Tomcats. but, I wasn't riding then either.

'course, having purchased the first GPZ 900R sold in the U.S. back in '84, serial # 000003,

I've always been partial to Gen I Ninjas, so my Gen I bias isn't something new. :D

(yeah, I can't prove it now 28 years later, but I know it's the truth)

As much as I dislike Tom Cruise, he picked the bike that Maverick rode in the movie. He thought that a guy like Maverick would have the cutting edge sportbike of the day. If anyone remembers the scene where she was fussing at him and he would not listen to her, he kept revving the motor and yelling "I can't hear you!" That sound was NOT a 500! As a high school kid at the time and every silly girl I took on a date wanted to see that movie AGAIN, I saw it numerous times, I remember more of it than I should. I was not into Kawasaki, but I did love those bikes. I wanted one badly, but I got over it.

Awe shucks my bad.

Sure looked slow though. Tom Cruise is pretty douchy but he knows bike and I'm sure will have the new Motus.

Howie: It's really cool that you still have that poster on your wall, it looks pretty good after all these years. Maybe the time is right to offer it up on ebay?

I just saw a Top Gear with him talking about his various motorcycles. I remember him talking about a 1934 Indian that Steve McQueen used to own. . . .
