With my wife out of town, I hunkered down in the garage this weekend... starting after work on Friday til midnight then all day Saturday and finished up with a test ride today after a few more hours of work.

This install focused on an MCCruise install for my 08 AE, but while I had the bike apart, I planned on a Fuzeblocks install, double powerlet install, Garmin 660 install and a 90 second install of HVMP heavy bar ends. I got everything installed and the bike is all back together.

Here is the crazy part and the real reason for this post... on Friday I posted a message on the boards here about a Scala G4 power set purchase and I got a note from Greb (Justin) on the forum here where he picked up on the fact that he lives close to me in Utah, about 8 miles actually from me here in Northern Utah. That was cool, but then I poked around at his previous forum posts and see that he just installed a MCCruise a few weeks back?? Nutty! What are the odds of that... Greb has a 08 Black FJR that he just did an MCCruise in stall a few weeks ago... crazy coincidence.

So with the crazy coincidence, Greb and I exchange phone numbers Saturday morning and chuckled about the fact that he just installed his MCCruise. Greb decides out of the blue to drive out on his bike Saturday afternoon after doing some work of his own. Greb shows up just as I was getting close to installing CIU on the MCCruise, which is one of the more painful parts of the install. Greb just when through it and helped save me a TON of time.

So how is that for a coincidence out of the blue due to the FJR forums here... I wouldn't call Utah the mecca of FJR riders, but the planets really lined up on this and talk about the common interest riding bikes create. I wouldn't know Greb from Adam right? But a personal message or two is exchanged on the forum here and Greb shows up ready to give some other FJR rider a hand on an install he did a few weeks ago!

I'm sure this is common across the board here, but kudo's to Greg... I know he doesn't need to hear it, but I must toss out a big thanks to Greb for stopping by and lending a hand sight unseen! Owning a bike creates instant trust and a desire to lend a hand.

I had a great weekend! I won't talk about the cost of all the farkles though... however it was worth it. ;)

It was great to meet you Matt. I'm always happy to help out my fellow riders!

Hey NG,

Welcome to the forum. I see that you've got 4 posts, and already you're seeing the benefits of hanging around the insanity we generate. There is so much to read on this forum, you could make it a full time job (don't even go THERE), and I hope you enjoy perusing our pages. Looking forward to hearing more about your adventures. Let us know how the CC works out for ya now that you've got it installed. By the way, maybe I could swing by the house and get some advice on installing some new bar ends. 90 seconds is about all the patience I have today. So how far are you from Spring Hill, Florida?

Hi Gary, it didn't take long to see the depth of the info on the forums here... Well, from Syracuse Utah, google maps tells me that it's about a 2300 mile ride to Spring Hill, Florida. Just a couple of 1150 mile days! ;)

so, honestly, is the mccruise worth the $$?

how was the install? i did a read-through on the installation instructions they were nice enough to send me. i got hung up on the part with some long bendable tool you're supposed to use at some point?

i've got an audiovox waiting on a shelf, but thinking about selling it and using that as a down payment on the mccruise.

I bought mine used for a little more than half of the cost of new, so I definitely think it is worth the money. It is extremely easy to use and works great.

Install took me about 4 hours. The long bendable tools just make it easier to disconnect and hook up the throttle cable to the throttle body. I was worried about that part when I first read the instructions as well, but once I got into it, that part of the install only took about 10 minutes at most and wasn't too bad at all.

I like it a lot and it is worth the money to me. If you think it is worth the added expense over an AVCC, well, you know what they say about opinions and yours might not be the same as mine.

I love the FJR but I kept finding myself looking at the BMW line because they have integrated electronic cruise control. I tried the throttlemeister for a couple years but got tired of constantly fiddling with it on trips. My FJR has been paid off since day one and my only regret now is not buying the McCruise sooner.

I rode Spud's FJR and he has the AVCC which worked just as well as my MCcruise does. I paid the extra cash for the plug and play aspect which can be easily removed and sold if it ever comes to that. I think either way you go you'll be fine but I personnally didn't mind paying the extra for a kit specifically designed and tested for my bike.

The MCcruise has a computer so that you can fine tune the cruise control in diagnostics mode.
