My FJR is an 06.

I am failing the carburettor cable free play test. It takes about 27 presses before the revs start to rise. The vacuum appears good although I don't have a gage (will probably buy one this week) and I believe that the cable is adjusted correctly. The free play is very low and if I take any more out there will not be any.

I am curious what other owners of the Mc Cruise get with this test.

Thanks

Chad

I just installed one on my 07. Mine responded between 18 and 20 pulses. Remember don't rush the response, pulse it about 18 or 19 times and give it a little time to respond. If you cannot get it in range, give Joe at spoiledbiker.com a call, he is very helpful and quick to return your call if you get his voice mail. 1-877-246-7187

Hi Chad

I just finished installing the McCruise on my '06 FJR. I also failed the carburetor free play test - I did it multiple times and was getting 27 ~ 28 pulses. So how did you fix yours to get the pulse count below 20?

Following the instructions, I am planning to reduce the freeplay in new carburetor cable up slightly and see if this reduces the high pulse count...

thanks!

Hi Colorado,

My problem was with the throttle. The throttle grip was a little stiff. I took it apart and took out a little more of the free play and made sure the throttle grip was free.

It works like a champ now. :yahoo:

Hope that helps

Chad

I'm watching this thread because I have the McCruise sitting on the shelf waiting to be installed.

I also have the Heli triple-tree and risers to install. I also have a VTX1800C to sell before I can get to adding my "farkles" to the FJR. (This is a spouse thing.)

I haven't really gotten into planning out the order of install yet, since it's some time away. However I am wondering if anyone has installed the McCruise cruise control and the Helibar triple-tree and risers. If so, in what order and what "effect" did one modification have on the other, if any?

There are some advantages to being lazy....I can sit back and hopefully learn from you guys!

Of course I would like to have all this and much more completed by WO6...Better get started, only 2-3 months left. :dribble:

LC,

I have both. I did the Heli triple tree first (I don't use the risers). I am not sure that it really matters what order you do them in. It might make sense to do them at the same time but if you have issues you might not know who to blame. The triple tree requires the re-routing of the throttle cables and that is very important to get right for the McCruise install.

I would would probably do them at the same time since they both require the tank to be pulled. Just make sure you have the above the bar control panel for the Mc Cruise or you will be hitting your tank.

Thanks Chad!

I adjusted the "caburetor" cable and got my pulse count down to 20. It started raining so I did get go for a test ride yet - hope to soon!

Thanks for the reply, Chad. I thought the "throttle cable" might well be involved with both. Time to read the instructions, huh.

Can't wait to try them out.

I did the Heli triple tree first (no risers) and then a few months later, installed the McCruise. My advice on the McCruise is don't even try to install the new "carburetor" cable by yourself - it went so easy with the extra pair of hands - thanks to my better half - after I tried to do it by myself for a while (read 30+ minutes of frustration!)

Second point is to get the "carburetor" cable freeplay correct the first time - I ended up adjusting the slack three times - each time having to remove the gas tank - the instructions states that you only want 1 mm of free play - and 1 mm is not very much at all...

Thanks for heads-up.... I don't know if I want my better half to see what I spent $600 on. Just kidding.

I finally got the McCruise on my '06 FJR on the road tonight - was really impressed with smoothness of both the engagement & resume function. Going up and down some hills at 50 mph, the McCruise held my speed +/- 2 mph - very nice!

I did find it strange to have so much slack in the throttle when the cruise was engaged at higher speeds (throttle being held open by the cruise) Is this typical?

I have ridden a BMW with factory cruise and don't remember the throttle going slack with the cruise engaged.
