So, I am starting to get a little excited. Tomorrow I pick up my new FJR. It will be my second (I had a 2010 that I bought as a left-over in 2011 that I had to, unfortunately sell last Spring).

There's a little bit of a story behind my getting her now. I had planned on getting a new FJR sometime in May or so. But someone made me an offer I couldn't refuse.

It all started when I went for a job interview a couple weeks ago. On the way home I passed by a Yamaha/Suzuki dealer that I didn't remember from when I lived in the area previously. Wanting to see a 2013 in-the-metal, I turned around and stopped in. They had a 2013 and it was a beauty.

I checked it out and chatted with the salesman. He asked about my bike history and if I was in the market for a bike. I told him yes, but I wasn't going to do anything for a couple months (it's still cold up here in CT... ). As the conversation went on, and the owner became involved, I mentioned I was thinking of doing a Fly-and-Buy in Indiana. The owner asked what the OTD price was on the IN bike. I told him the amount, including the fact that I would have to pay plane fare and incidentals.

Here's where it got interesting...

The owner then asked me if he could match the "actual" cost (OTD, plus my trip expenses), would I buy the bike he had on the floor? My heart rate picked up a bit and I started to get excited. I demurred and said I wasn't really ready to make a deal right now and still hadn't investigated financing. He came back and said I could put down a small deposit (he agreed to $250) and run my credit application. I could investigate financing in the mean-time and I could always get my deposit back.

I was "sold." I gave him my deposit and went home later and did the credit app on-line. I was approved at a decent rate for more than the OTD (they will no doubt offer all kinds of accessories... ).

So, I go and get her tomorrow morning. It's going to be cold (high of 40*), but I'll be okay (I only need to travel about a hour). Really looking forward to being a riding member of the asylum/tribe/forum.

Pics to follow...

P.S. I'd have to check my paperwork at home, but I believe the OTD price is ~$13,800 (plus CT tax and reg.); the reason he could make the deal was the bike was allocated to the dealer as a demo and it was "less." Regardless, I got a FJR, at my price -- without a plane trip and 872 mile ride.

Darn, you'll have to figure out another way to get in an 872 mile ride.

Maybe you'll have warmer weather by then.

Congratulations!

Wishing you all the best on the new FJR and many enjoyable miles! Don't get me wrong but when deciding on the purchase of a FJR, (I had been admiring them from afar ever since they came out), I decided against financing due to the actual price when done was scary and didn't want to be a slave to payments. So I saved up the cash and then two years later made the purchase. I was better able to negotiate with a fist full of cash by far. And ever since I don't do credit on anything and the result is amazing.

The truth is dealers don't make that much on the bike but on the financing and in the shop working on them. Getting off track here and didn't mean to hijack but just food for thought. Either way this bike is one heck of a bike and I consider it one of the best now on the road and I truly know you can't go wrong with owning one. Take care and ride safe. PM.

Congrats....you'll love it

Painman, Yamaha has 3.9% financing for 36 months + $500 extra trade in allowance. Now is a great time to buy, just make sure it's paid off in 36 months.

Congrats!

Kinda sounds like how I got mine. It was a "demo" bike in Ohio. When I couldn't get any of my local dealers to match, away I went with trailer in tow.
