Admins, could you remind JB to include NWS warnings in his posts.

I'm shocked and dismayed by that image.
I'm shocked and dismayed that you're shocked and dismayed.

Hycle, for an extra 18 simple miles, wanna meet in Rio Vista? Avoid the greater Sackatomatoes metro area?
I am still waiting for the final nod from Terri if she is going. If I am riding solo I could meet you for the extra miles.

If we meet in Rio Vista, when and where?

At this gas station on the west side of the bridge at 7:45 o-dark-thirty :( .

Full route (from Concord). Should get us there in time to visit with everyone and flirt with the women folk  before MM2's ungodly early 10 AM departure (that's departure, not meet; we clear, pilgrim?! :glare: ).

Hycle, not sure if I can make it, (looks good so far) but if I can I'll meet you and JB in Rio Vista. Let's see if we can behave ourselves this time. Maybe stay behind Old Michael.

Will say for sure by Sat. night.

I'm a newbie. I met Madmike a little over a year ago. I look forward to meeting your group. My daughter will be coming along also. She'll be riding my V-Strom 1000. We rode over Sonora last weekend. We covered about 350 miles. One of the farkles we bring along is cb radio communication. Anyone else have radios? I looked at weather.com and it said the HIGH temp for Kirkwood will be 42. I'll be sure and bring my warm gloves. See you all at Starbucks around 9:30

I'm double checking the weather forecast this morning:

Sunday from www.accuweather---

Jackson: 68, Partly sunny and cool with a passing shower

Kirkwood: 50, Intervals of clouds and sunshine with a passing shower; chilly

Markleeville: 54, Sun & clouds, possible passing shower

Minden, NV (Topaz): 61, Intervals of clouds and sunshine with a passing shower; cool

Dan, Bluestreek and I run GMRS radios.

Hi, Big Dan. I'm one of the fellahs you met at the Wall a few weeks ago. See you and your daughter there.

P.S. What's it like riding with guys who drink beer out of a can before noon while on a ride....????

Mike, without catching hell, can I please ask why the start time is so late in the day.
Apparently not. In fact, I've begun to wonder if you can avoid catching hell whether you post or not. Getting my darlin' back from Roseville Yama today. I'm gonna try to make this, but will one of you ride ahead of me and kick the rocks out of the road please?

New rule for group leaders -- they need to carry a hockey stick to slap shot any and all rocks off the roadway :nhl_checking:

What...you want some rules from the group leader???

I can accommodate you and it will save having THE SAFETY LECTURE.

READ this linked article: THE PACE!

1) Arrive at the meet place with your gas tank FULL.

There are 2 or 3 gas stations on the main drag (Hwy 49) of Jackson.

For goodness sakes...stop and fill your bike's gas tank!

2) I hate the sound of bikes sliding on pavement. And I hate how they look afterward.

PLEASE, while you are brushing your teeth...Turn ON Your Brain and common sense!

3) I don't like the sounds people make when injured during a motorcycle crash. Nor do I like to see blood oozing from a friend. I really dislike seeing bones protruding through skin and riding suits and having to make THAT phone call to loved ones!

Read "The Pace" and use some patience. Control your right wrist twisty thingy and keep your spacing.

Also, we "might" run stagger formation on the major parts of the highways, BUT I expect everyone to adhere to the single-file system on twisty parts and keep 2 to 3 seconds spacing. This isn't a race and you shouldn't be looking for places to pass, so don't push the guy (or gal or couple) in front of you.

RIDE YOUR OWN RIDE! No rider ever got hurt taking a corner 5 mph slower.

4) This IS Memorial Weekend. There will be plenty of "tourist types" doing unknown and unplanned "tricks" on the roadway. There will also likely be a greater CHP presence. Let's THINK!

If there are showers, the roads will be damp and slick. I plan to ride "+5" until we are in more "remote" environs. Er...uhm...radar detectors ON, GMRS radios ON.

5) Hwy 89 over Monitor Pass should be its usual "yee-freakin'-haw" and, "Lookit ther Ethel-Mae, sweepers!" ride. However, Hwy 4 over Ebbetts Pass always presents its own reasons for forethought. Stay Wide!

Ride your sight lines (If you can't see...SLOW DOWN!) because there will be many different people on that stretch and not all "problem causers" drive cages...some motorcyclist present their own brand of "pucker moments" thinking its their private raceway.

6) Ride smooth and ride safe. The "fun" is in the finishing!

7) Oh yeah....Watch for rocks!

I heard that they do terrible things if one should hit them.

My original plan is to ride from Jackson to Carson Pass for the first rest-stop (75 miles?/ 1 1/2 hours). Then from Carson Pass to Topaz Lake (45-50 miles/1 hr.). If that is going to be too long, speak up and we'll find another stop along the route. (Cook's Station? Ham Station?)

My plan was to stop at the Monitor Pass overlook on the way back, after lunch. Then tackle Ebbett's and on down to Murphys (Topaz to Murphys=90 miles). I KNOW there is an ice cream place there....and The Den Mother can "smell" them. :D

If I think of anything to add, I'll do so Sunday morning.

Just checked hwy conditions. Chains required on 88 adn 4. I was hoping to not have to bring them to save weight.

Yeah, like I said, this may turn out to be a "Ride to Breakfast" in Jackson and enjoy some lower elevation roads. I suppose we'll know more tomorrow (He said, while heading for the garage to re-install the foot guards, hand guards and Winter windshield.) ;)

Just went for a walk in the drizzle here in Sacramento. Wearing my finest high traction sneakers, I was almost able to skate on some parts of the road surface - asphalt - and especially any painted areas.

It's been a long time since we've had decent precipitation here, and this sprinkling isn't enough to really rinse off the slime. It would be better if it were to just pour for a couple of hours, and wash away "the pain."

I guess I'll just rent Million Dollar Mermaid or go buy some stout and read my shop manual. Tomorrow WILL dawn mild and sunny. It WILL.

Back when I rode bicycles, riding 200 miles in 12 hours, we worried about the weather.

Some people would say it's too cold, too wet, etc...

Our reply was "I'll let you know when we get back from the ride".

See you Tomorrow :yahoo:
