Great to have you abroad...aboard.

The V46 GIVI top case is larger and can more easily take a helmet or two. The Yamaha case is supported by the plastic rear rack, the GIVI by its own, less expensive, metal, stronger, uglier aluminum rack. Personally, I prefer the GIVI setup. I had 3 GIVIs on my ZRX 1200 and was spoiled by them.

I have found that the stock shield puts the smooth airflow at my chest-neck level (at 5'9"). I never use it all the way up unless it is very cold and I have found that if I put it halfway up, it directs the air into a Moses-like parting of the waters on my shield. I simply put up with the back pressure. I am still considering the options of the Rifle tiltable shield, the laminar flow shield, or some new one that comes along. I am not yet convinced that I will, in fact, change the shield.

Enjoy the ride and ride safely,

Ron

I just finished reading your write-up. Damn fun!

Congrats!!!!

Thanks for the smile ... and Thank the Gods for people like Bob!

:boss:

RadioHowie,

I truly enjoyed your Bob Carter trilogy

Welcome to the Cosmic Carpal Club. People from all continents united by pain.

(I'm sure you already know that disconnetting the main return spring is a 15-minute job and the cheapest, most effective FJR farkle).

Enjoy your bike and say hey y'all to Bob next time you see him

Stef

...Today I am a Feejer owner.
Picked up the bike tonight, said my goodbyes to Bob and Jean,...

...So, after almost 10 months of wishing, waiting and wondering, I don't have to wish, wait or wonder anymore.  I'm an official Feejer pilot, notwithstanding my avatar ranking.

It's great to be aboard.

Both figuratively and literally.
Hey Howie,

This thread you started is a great read about a great ride ;) all the more so because I bought my '05 FJR on the same day as you did (9-13-05) :) ) Also, I went through much the same process... except not with such an engaging and captivating seller as Bob Carter.

Mine was a rocket jockey who was disappointed with the FJR he bought only 3 months ago after owning an '01 Hayabusa. So he went out and finalized the purchase of another older and "unbridled" '99 Busa on the same day as our transaction. Happy trails kid...

BTW, Bob Carter's morin 20 years older than I am so I copy-pasted your postings about him in an email (quoting you) and sent it to my kids and a few friends who claim I'm too old for this baby B)

They say I should stick to my V-Twin Shadow or better still fix-up my old '72 Triumph Bonneville 650 that's in the barn and put it back on the road - more suiting to a sixties child they say ?!...

Putting aside the wonderful WOW and goosebump factors on the FJR, your first thoughts on technicals are much the same as mine. I'm 6 ft -205 lbs and find I prefer the windshield all the way down over 60 mph because of turbulence and noise around the helmet when its up. Today I'll see what she's like in the rain. I also have shoulder "issues" and find that deceleration on compression or braking is somewhat painful - but hey, pain is part of the package I expected in this new territory…

Hey, OLD,

The VERY FIRST THING you should tell your kids is to kiss your 50+ year old ass.

I make it a point to tell my 28 year old that as frequently as possible. He's always "reminding" me of my mortality, while I'm always reminding him of is "loser"-osity. He's a prime example of the "Slacker" generation (I'm gonna get flamed for this, I know it) but I swear to God, I've never met a more useless bunch of meat sacks than 25-29 year olds who blame us (their parents) for their lack of success/motivation/living standards.

If birth control was retroactive.....(sigh)

Oh, his mom agrees with me. :D

And to your personal description, 6'0", 205..."Listen up, Shorty!" :drinks:

Hope you have as much good luck with your Feejer that I hope to have with mine.

And thanks to everyone for responding so positively to this thread.

Hey RadioHead,

Just so's there's no misunderstanding, its the Logs that I salvage that are Old, not the Dog ;)

...

Actually, I sensed some real concern on on my kids part about my new mount - not sure though if its for my body or my sanity ?...

Don't want to go into the "meat sacks" thing, but I hear you, I have a few nephews in the city like that: 20s and even 30s, satisfied with minimum work and minimum wage and incredibly, DON'T HAVE and DON'T EVEN WANT A DRIVERS LICENCE ?!!!

Just to show you how cynical I am, I wonder if their concern is neither for your health OR sanity, but rather THEIR inheritance.

"Is Dad gonna spend it all on himself?"

:D

Hey Radidio, Great prose man, and we all appreciate the "Bob Carters" of this world when we're lucky to find 'em. Thanks a bunch for the smile ! And on the parental thread...the uselessness extends down to the eighteen year olds...the chinese are gonna have a blast with these meat bags, an entire generation of slugs...their motto?..."Whatever"....lets not discount bio fuel bro...soylent whatever.... :D

I guess old cynics think alike, I've already started spending their inheritance and apart from a well-worn old bike or two, all I plan to leave behind is a piece of land, some farming tools and the hope that they'll put them to good use :bleh: :haha:
