I recently had a set of Metzeler's new Z-8 tires installed. I only have 500 miles on them but I found them to be outstanding for handling and ride quality, better than the Z-6's. Only time will tell regarding wear and rain performance.

ALL new tires handle GREAT. Just the way it is. I won't buy those silly tires due to the 'no tread' in the center of the rear. Belts come quickly and unexpectedly on those types of tires.

You-right ^^^ -- mostly...

As long as the new tires are, somewhat, the style/application for the bike.

I once mounted a GoldWing (application) rear tire on a C-10 Concours in order to see if I could get more tire-life. I hated that tire from the first corner -- 1/4 mile from my house. I had to really push on the bar to get her heeled-over -- and, of course I was heading-out on a trip. I couldn't wait to get back and get that damn thing off... :(

If your new tires don't feel great, initially -- they're probably far from the right tire...

I just bought a set of them for 291.00 to the door and the rear is a c spec. I need to have a set of tires in stock even though I just spooned on PR2's(B spec rear)1000 miles ago.

I like the stiff side wall so will pay for C, B, or GT spec tires when I can get them, just me and my choice.

I am wondering what you are saying about no tread in the center. They appear to me to indeed have tread cut into the center?

Z8 Picture

I want to try the tires most recommended to make my mind up on what I will run.

The Z6 was one of the few front tires to hold up on the BMW LT at 900 plus pounds so I am pretty excited to try the Z8 on the front and comparing them to the PR2.

I am just wondering what you mean by no tread in the center of the Z8?

Edit: I just looked at the tread on a Z6 and indeed it has changed, I see what you mean based on the Z6 rear to the Z8 rear completely different tread pattern'

$291 is pretty pricey. That alone would keep me away. I recently bought a set of Bridgestones for $223.

As for the tread, it definitely looks better than the Z6, but is still does not have tread running across the center. Verified by current owner of the tire: Clicky.

So, I'll let you other peeps be the guniea pigs.

Yes the price was not impressive however I did use a C spec and that adds 20.00 bucks to the price.

I was going to go after PR2 when I saw the price of the Z8, but the PR2 are only a bit less when using a B spec rear also. IMHO tire prices are just crazy at this time anyway.

The ride reports seem very promising on the Z8 and the knocks on the PR2 are not present on the Z8.

I am not really sold on them till I run them myself, but as I said the Z6 kept it's profile under a very heavy bike and that is what I looking for.

I understand you aversion to a smooth center but after you brought my attention to it there is a pretty big difference in a Z6 and a Z8 pattern.

Time will tell and I do thank you for pointing it out.

I'm with you on that. My Z6's totally surprised me when cords showed signs of begining to show. I'm done with metzeler after the were shot front and rear with slightly over 4K.
