Metzeler Z6

Metzeler Z6 came factory on my 08 FJR, is Michelin Pilot Road 2 any better, Reason I ask is I've noticed the bike/tire's slide a little and today while out on a pretty twisty road I slid fairly well a couple time almost to the point of o-****, is this inherent to this bike do to weight or is it the tire's, or a little of both ?

I've got about 3600 miles on my '08 and have felt the back tire slip several times, enough that I don't have any confidence in the Metzelers. I'm considering replacing them before they are worn out.

I've got 5600+- on my metz's and not real impressed, think I'll be trying the Michelin's , however on behalf of the metz's the road was a bit cooler today then usual, still don't like sliding

I guess you made the class where they taught commas, but were absent the day in 5th grade they introduced the period.

At the risk of egging this on.....the PR2's tend to take longer to heat up, so they will break free early on or on cold roads. I was satisified with their longevity, but if you are after performance, well you may want to keep looking. Just like the Cap'n said, search and you will find a lot of info on these.

It's funny how subjective taste in tires actually is. I mean... BMW guys ride the **** out of their bikes and most of them seem to love Metzeler Z6 tires. I wonder how many FJR1300s are using the "G" spec front and "C" spec rear tires that Metzeler recommends for our bikes. I wonder if there would be much of a difference.

Tire performance is very much subject to usage patterns. I tend to ride at what I call a sporting pace.

Original Metz 6's gave me 6,455 (F) and 5,170 ® with most of the mileage being interstates on a trip to the Hill Country of Texas. Grip is rated at 3.

Michelin Sport Pilot (F) and a "sport" tire provided 4,064 miles with a Michelin Road ® providing 4,034 miles in the Ozarks and mountains of GA and TN. Grip is rated at 2.

My latest set of RoadSmarts yielded 3,388 (F) and 3,747 ® while sport touring at a brisk pace in the mountains of N GA, TN, VA, and W VA while at EOM. Trail braking into corners and hard launches at corner exits were the pattern. Grip is rated at 1.

Given the environments in which they were used; I thought all the tires perfomed great. I have no complaints with any of them.

We ought to be very glad that the manufacturers are providing us sport touring tires to use in a wide variety of environments and patterns of usage. As compared to just a very few years ago, our current choices are much improved. Let's enjoy them.
