Lots have been writen about metzler's front tire belt seperation, so I won't go over it here. However I desided to try the tire out anyway.

So far I like the tire alot. It feels more stable than the Avon. While the Avon is a great tire, sometimes I would feel the rear end move around when cornering over small bumps and expantion joints. Not so with the z6. Also the front tire cups easily.

Traction in the rain today with the z6 was excellent-every bit as good as the avon if not even better.

I only have 500 miles on the tire so I dont know how it will wear yet.

The steering is light and neutral and it seems to handle well

I also tried the Michelin Pilot Road some time ago. That was a great tire also, however so far I like the z6's a little better.

I'll see how the z6 wears, and I'll be sure to keep an eye on the front tire for any unusual wear.

GunMD, :haha: I thought something but chose to post nothing. Yours was a much better and kinder response than mine might have been.

Actually when I posted that I started to include several photos of totally separated Metz tires but decided that I'd be hijacking the thread. The info is out there and everyone should make their own choices.

Good luck with those tires. Gun said it best... May the Force be with you. Hope you closely examine them before, during and after every ride.

I had 2 sets of Pilot Roads before I went with my first set of Z6's (I'm on my 2nd set now and, yes, I've heard all of the horror stories). I, too, noticed the improved performance and handling characteristics over the Pilot Roads. I got less than 4000 miles out of the rear Pilot Roads and the Bridgestone 020s. I got over 7000 miles out of my last Z6 rear. Normally I change 1 rear to 2 fronts, but, since I got so much more mileage out of the Z6, and because I couldn't fathom putting over 14,000 miles on a sport touring tire, I swapped them both.

Welcome to the Dark Side.

The Z6's I have on now are the absolute worst pieces of shit I've ever had the displeasure of running. The front is Satan Spawn. The mofo triangled at 4k or so, now the bitch just flops left and right v. rolling. The rear's OK but the front's gotta go...

Keep posts like this coming. Less demand = more supply, right? Maybe more supply = price incentives to buy.

I should add I've run 880's on other scoots with excellent results, and have run Metz's for years. I just don't trust the Z's after what has been posted for a couple years on the touring forums.

This is the 3rd brand of tires I've had on my bike and am extremely happy with the performance of them. Why would I spend $300 to fix something that, to me, isn't broken?

7000+ miles on my last set and no triangulated front. Then again, I don't ride the same as you, I don't carry the same stuff on my bike as you, I don't ride the same roads as you, I don't run the same tire pressure as you, and my suspension isn't set the same as yours.

Well, there you have it....consensus on what is the best tire for the FJR! As this thread continues to degenerate, any moment now it will be moved to the "Neverending Pointless Thread Column", never to be read or commented on again!

I currently have the Pilot Roads and like them for my style of riding. I'll probably try the Pirelli Diable Stradas next. Tires are one of the expendable wear items on a bike, so there is plenty of room for exploration....besides, everyone else is going to the Avons and I just have to go my own way!

Uh huh, I see... So you wanna throw down then, eh?! Alright, put 'em up! :aggressive:

FWIW, I preferred the stock Z4's that came on the bike over these pieces of elephant effluent. But, 'sokay, you're allowed to be, um, different. :lmao::aacute: ;)

There's somethin' about "throwin' down" agin Barney Fife that makes my belly shake like a bowl full of jelly...

I have mixed feelings on whether I should put up that picture that says 'arguing on the internet is like running in the special olympics - even if you win, you're still retarded'. Sorry, not the most politically correct statement, but, it's funny to me.

I tried to stay on the context of the thread (except for the post that had to be made to make sure everyone knows I'm not Silver Bullet's father). The original poster said he had Pilot Roads and that he likes the Z6 better. Me too. He then went to Z6 and then was wondering how it will wear and I was simply trying to share my experiences since I, too, had Pilot Roads and like the Z6 better and was telling him how it wore for me.

You shared your experiences, too. That's cool. I wasn't trying to be a dick (difficult for me sometimes) when I stated the differences, I was just stating my experiences. Throwin down? Hardly. Z6s seem to be OK for some (and the posts about tire failure are well documented) and not for others. Super. Avons seem to be OK for some and some don't like them and some complain about the wobble. Again, that's cool and you can't dispute the fact that there isn't 1 'best tire'.

And now for the most important part of this post - Motul 15/50 oil is the best. Motoman break in is the best procedure. Cerulean Silver is the fastest color. 42-42 is the best tire pressure for everyone in every circumstance. Non-ABS is better than ABS. Unlinked brakes (with stock pads, btw) are the best. The FJR does not need 6th gear. Yamaha gear oil is fine. lemme see - BMW riders are not all prima donnas, Harley riders are not all drunken inexperienced unskilled riders and their bikes don't always leak oil or rattle apart, you're not necessarily an irresponsible squid if you don't wear all the gear all the time, Warchild is an inflexible benevolent dictator (just checking to see if he's reading this), political threads don't belong on a motorcycle message board, and, most important, Miller Lite may be less filling, but, Bud Lite tastes great.

:p

You gotta love a guy named Randy. ;)

BTW....my front Z6 is triangulated too at approx. 8500 miles. I thought there was a problem with the front end until I realized a new tire is in order.

And that new tire WILL be another Z6! Best handling tire......FOR ME.

When someone steps up and buys me a set of Avons I'll switch. I'll stick with what works, thank you.
