After 3832 miles, my Michelin Power Pure rear tire looked like this: Is this typical for this tire? Fred W warned me that I'll love this tire for a short time but less than 4K? Also do tires wear at a faster rate when they start to begin their demise? I had a head shake that I've never experienced before. It was under hard acceleration with this tire......could a bad rear tire cause a front end head shake?

Looks pretty typical to me for a tire that's designed for a 400 pound motorcycle being used on a 650 pound motorcycle.

FredW was 100% correct. Even on my 500 pound ZRX, with my 275 pounds of fat *** on it, the Pilot Power was an incredible tire....for 3900 miles.

Had them on my Tiger1050 and they only lasted less then 3K miles. They are mostly designed for track days, however, I got a helluva deal on them and couldn't resist. They did handle extremely well in the twisties.

I'm surprised you got ~3800 miles out of those sportbike tires! I run sport-tour designed tires and struggle to get 4k miles out of them.

I called Michelin. They said that the tire can handle the weight of the FJR but is not recommended for a touring bike.

OK, all kidding aside. Have you considered the Michilin PR2? I assume you know that they have a dual compound, hard in the middle to resist wear and softer on the sides for cornering. I've got 14k on my front and it still has tread. (the back is a car tire... wear is not an issue)

PR2 is what I've been using but they only had the Pure's in stock. They told me that the Pure was taking the place of the PR2 and was just as durable. Said they mount em on Gold Wings and the owners love em.

The dealer that told you that either is an *****, flat out lied, or both. The Pure is a sportbike tire that's super-lightweight, and isn't even made in sizes anywhere close to fitting a Goldwing.

Caveat emptor.

I sent them the Michelin chart but they stood by their position and offered nothing.
