I will be heading off to the Minnesota 2010 (2 day rally) next week. Anyone else going to be there?

[threadjack]Hey Perry! How's the back? Did you ride the Minuteman?

[/threadjack]
Hey Ed.

Did not ride the Minuteman as I had to attend an unfortunate and unexpected funeral of a friend that weekend. Read some ride reports and it looks like it was a great rally.

The back is still bothering me but I am determined to complete the Minnesota rally. Should be a blast and looking forward to it. Heading out tomorrow and will report back in next week.

Looking forward to meeting some of the other members here participating in the Minnesota 2010. I will drop by to say hi to as many FJRers as possible.... to those looking for me.... I ride an 07 with a taildragger aux tank with an Ontario plate "LD4FUN" (Long Distance For Fun!) I also have happy faces on the back of my helmet and side cases (A touch from my adorable daughter!) :)

Hey Perry and the guys,

Ride hard, have fun. I'm resting this weekend. :p

But I'll be keeping an eye on the computer for updates.

Gathering gear now :yahoo:

I look at it this way, this year, I only need to ride 400 miles farther then last year and I have another day to do it :clapping:

It was Dereks Moto last year sit here twist this

The MN2010 is in the books and definitely one for the ages and well represented by the FJRs entered. stryg8r took top honors :good: and looked fresh as a dasiy at the finish. Now I'm going from memory here after a few days with little sleep so excuse me if I miss someone or miss place someone (damn my monkey brain) Behmer took solid top ten (4th??) two up with his wife on the Venture racking up 2900 miles :eek:mg: Cruzin and DaJuice put in good rides in prep for their longer multi day rallies later this year. I got the chance to meet karstenp at what was the final bonus for most riders, Bob's Java Hut in south Minneapolis, he finished well but I can't exactly say where. After riding all over MN, SD, ND, NE and likely WY right now karstenp is burning across Wisconsin to catch the ferry in Milwaukee at 6AM tomorrow, too tough :eek:mg: Valtz got a late start  but finished strong. opt8low was turned into hired help after a dual sport episode got his leg up close and personal with some plaster but to his credit he did show up with some refreshing beverages. That's all my krispy brain can remember right now, corrections and additions will come later.

Here is my route. The Magenta line is day 1 and cyan is day 2. I'll put together a ride report and get some more pics up if I find time and can remember what I actually did. Day 1 went great for me, but it was the longer harder day (no way around it if I wanted to get at the big points out west) and burnt me out for day 2. I got the chance to watch some very impressive riding by stryg8r as we carved through spearfish canyon and ran into him, Cruzin and the Behmer's as we fought the very annoying crosswind up the west side of the Dakota's

Huge thanks to Gramps for calling me a couple times Saturday night and keeping me awake and letting me know what the weather was doing... I was a hurtin' unit by that time.

wow is all I have to say. Can I ask how old you guys are? Very impressive. A little rushed for me but it'd be great to say I did it.

I'd just want to stay in the black hills and do 300-400 miles a day there :)

I just turned 30, but I'm almost certain I was the youngest rider in the event, there are a couple of others that I'd say in their low 30's... I'm definitely the newbie to this compared to the other guys on here that were in the event. I'm hoping they get a chance to write something up too, I'm about half done with my report now. I'll have a pic of something called carhenge in Nebraska that is quite the sight based on stonehenge that I'll be putting in it or you can just google it. I'll let the other FJR boys chime in on their age if they choose.

That was the 1st time for me with the bike in the Black Hills, they are some nice roads, although I didn't take much of the tour as I was on a mission, I'll be back there someday soon at a more leisurely pace. The traffic in the hills was annoying compared to the roads coming up from Laramie, WY to the hills. Spearfish canyon was the only must do road that got put on my route and only because it was the fastest route. I wanted to hit the needles highway and there was a bonus there, but I just couldn't fit it in.

This is only the 2nd time this event has been a multiday, it is normally a 24 hour rally, the 1st time was Y2K, hence the MN2000 and this being the 10 year anniversary, they decided to make anther 2 day and call it the MN2010. There was no minimum amount of points or miles though so it is only as rushed as you make it. There are several other smaller rallies in this area put on by the GLMC (www.glmc.org) that are a 12 hour format and Rick put on a mini bonus rally at CFO this year. All of those are great for rookies and seasoned vets alike and many people choose to run them at a leisurely pace, simply because the destinations are either on great roads or off the beaten path amazing sights you never knew were there... That is the draw for me. My 1st rally was a few years ago called the Bonzai, which at the time started and ended in Richland Center, WI and was run by a man that has a serious passion for motorcycles and vast knowledge of the area so the stuff I saw blew me away and kept me coming back. I highly recommend you try one, you'll find some 1st rate people at these events willing to help you get started and offer up all the advice you need to beat them or just have a good time.
