Yep, a really cool event occurred today in San Francisco. Although it coincided with the SuperBowl, it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity so I didn't want to miss it.

Seems about a half million people had my same idea, so traffic was a parking lot for miles around. But me, on the FJR--no problemo.

Here's what all the fuss was about: Never Seen Before in San Francisco Bay

The Queen Mary 2 stopped traffic on the bridge cold; and no wonder. It is the largest ship ever to sail into San Francisco since the first European vessel 233 years ago....(so says the san fran chron)

Oh yeah that is nice and all but dammit it is the Super Bowl. You really need to examine your priorities! Good solid American companies are paying 2 million dollars a minute for the people of SF to watch their commercials. What is wrong with you people?!! :)

I have to agree with Gypsy.

I also heard someone say that "Titanic was way bigger." The QM2 is about 250 feet longer, 40 feet wider, and displaces about 100,000 tons more.

That was some kid who said that on the video. Punk. :glare:

The Titanic was a featherweight compared to this enchilada*:

*I'm pretty sure that's a pretty good mixed metaphor.

Thanks for that...I'd read about the ship coming into the bay and now I've seen it.

From Long Beach, home of the Original QM

Puhleeeeezzzzze, I've got bigger boats in my bathtub!

Okay, not really. ;)

That's pretty awesome. We took a cruise for the first time ever this past August on Royal Carribean. I thought that ship was big, but having watched your video, it looks like the QM2 had Royal Carribean cruise ships strapped to its sides in the event of an emergency.

And the QM2 doesn't have the humidity problem.
