But, you're exactly right. Everyone has his/her own favorite -- neither of us is wrong
Except SkooterG apparently.

I was thinking along the same lines...Mcatrophy, don't you have a jack in your car? Seems much easier.
I don't have a car. She has a car. If I took out the jack, She would not use it, her father told her never to go out in Her car without a spare wheel and a jack. If She can't use Her car when She wants to, my life won't be worth living.
I'll stick to my broom-handle.

She doesn't have to know... :D
She would know. She can read me like a book. And she would recognise the jack under the bike as she drove out of the garage. She has changed her own wheel before now, her father taught her well.

Dear Santa,

I would like to have one of these for Christmas. I have been a very good boy this year. I'm sure my wife wouldn't like to find my cold crushed body under my motorcycle in the garage. You don't even have to wrap it.

Thanks you Santa (Father Christmas).

The very, very good boy,

ionbeam, I think it's time we had a talk. I know you will find this hard to believe, that everybody has been telling you porkies all these years. I'm so sorry to be the one to tell you, but Santa isn't real :swoon: .

But, don't tell anyone else, this is just between us, we don't want to upset anyone :nono: .

WHAT THE HELL DO YOU MEAN, SANTA ISN'T REAL???!!!

Oh, sh*t, I thought I'd PM'd ionbeam, must have posted a reply instead.

Don't worry, Zilla, I'm sure you'll get the Christmas presents you deserve

Hey, come on, you lot are going to get me into Off Topic trouble. Ok, I'll ask Santa for a jack. Don't think she'll get me one, though. Probably hit me with my broom handle for asking. That's what she did last time I asked her for something I really wanted.

Maybe you should ask her when the broom handle is wedged underneath a bike that's got it's front wheel off then.

I put the bike on the lift with the center stand down. Used a combination of straps and a bottle jack with some wood under the headers. Much easier to remove the front wheel without the bottom of the head stand in the way.

Ask her if you can borrow the car jack while she takes the broom out for a spin instead. :)

You want me to ask her to pick up a broom? You think I'm suicidal?

Well I suppose she would have to pick it up before riding off on it. They still play quiddich over there? :)

You could always hang stuff off the back of the bike as well. It stays up easier once the front wheel is off too. Or get someone to sit on the passenger seat for you. You know, if none of the other options here work for you. I use the jack from my car with a book or a piece of wood under the headers, works fine.
Can't find the picture but sometimes you need to be creative, and having centerstand allows for all sorts of creativity. I backed my FZ1 up to my wife's car, then attached a ratchet strap to her wheel and the givi rack on the FZ1. Ratchet the back end down and the front comes up. I will note, you should make sure she doesn't need to go anywhere, as they get pissy when they have to wait for you to finish the tire change so they can go to the store.

From what I have read about the frailness of the rear sub-frame, I would not suggest hanging anything off the rear rack to lift the front wheel. If you do not want to use the headers as a jack point you can place wood blocks under the metal tabs on either side of the engine case. Been doing that for years!!

Too bad we are oceans apart. Your wife could teach mine how to change a tire!!! I learned years ago, do not attempt to teach your spouse how to ski, play golf or fix anything on a car!!!

Ya know? You can get a little 2-ton trolley jack for about $30.

I use a mechanical scissor jack under the header.

Should your hydraulic jack leak out over night, you'll have additional issues...

Yeah. If I leave it any amount of time I stick a jack stand under it. Obviously, any jack will work fine, as will, apparently, a broomstick ;)

Genius, simple and thrifty. Any vehicle could be used for a longer term solution.

I have a concrete screw anchor in the floor of my garage. Just screw an eyebolt into it and tie down the back of the bike with a ratchet strap. I find I use that screw anchor for all kinds of things.
