Mississippi Blues pilgrimage – Hwy 1 River road and Hwy 61 Baton Rouge to Memphis

Doesn’t look like many twisties but well maintained back roads and lots of history and points of interest – Blues plus Civil War memorial parks. Has anyone made this one?

I searched ride reports and the only mention of Baton Rouge is in this ride report:

https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php?s...;hl=baton+rouge

Typically we use the ride reports section to write about and usually share pictures of our rides. For Ride Planning, see the section above Ride Reports called Ride Planning. It is broken up into geographical locations. Here's the ride planning section for the MidWest

You will get a good response there because there will be more people there familiar with the area that you are talking about :)

Thanks OrangevaleFJR,

For the info on the ride and the forum topic direction.

I'm getting the hang of this - just need a little guidance.

I'll post the results of the ride (pos or neg)

Hope to get some pics

give me a shout sometime and together we will head up there to find Robert Johnsons grave site(s)

Hey................it's an adventure and all I need is an excuse to ride

we will go to the crossroad in search of the devil and sell our souls in search of speed :yahoo:

Hey friends,

To start off with I chickened out and only made 320 miles of this journey (Had grandfather duty that night!)

Started from Jackson at 9:00am I shot over to Vicksburg and checked out the civil war park. Man I had forgotton how pretty this place is and also how much care is taken in the preservation of this battlefield. Could have spent most of the day here.

This is a pic of the USS Cairo that was raised from the Yazoo river.

Took a short tour of Vicksburg – no I wasn’t lost I just missed a couple of turns looking at the sights of this beautiful town. Sorry no pics

Took MS hwy 61 up to MS hwy 1 then cut across hwy14 to I49 back to J town.

Once on hwy 1 I found this road to be baron of vehicles except for a couple of stray trucks and what looked like a BMW RT. Not 100% sure but he looked as surprised to see me as I was of him. Should have turned around and got more info. If you like to see LARGE cotton fields, farm implements, crop dusters and straight flat roads this is the place to be.

I see opportunity here!

Note legal stuff: Once on the closed course that everyone takes and with supervised air support. I decided to open this machine up a little. Approx 155 indicated and 146.3 on GPS. The bike had more throttle than I did – I just knew, out there some where, that Mr. Farmer was putting along on his tractor ready to pull out into the hwy with little regard for a fire breathing, asphalt eating, human missile zipping along his country road.

I’ve been riding the VMAX for the last few years and to compare the two is crazy but the VMAX gets you up to about 130 really, really fast with lots of guts left over but that’s all I can stand without fairings and ground effects and hopefully with no turning required. The FJR will get you there very quickly and just keeps going. With my limited experience of speed beyond the ¼ mile this is an exciting bike and is really scary how comfortable it is at high speeds. This baby has some long legs. Got to keep an eye on the spedo!!!

Check out the grin.
