What kind of person comes home with a Gen3 FJR with all those cool, customizable menus and does not even try to find out what it all does and what all the switches and indicators are supposed to do? I cannot imagine.
I read my owner's manual the first night I got the bike. Not that it did me any good because I still crashed it on my way home the next morning, but at least I read it.
I swear, the guy at the dealer showed me EVERYTHING but that button. The handlebar snakes, the helmets and luggage, preload, cruise control, blah blah blah.

I crashed my '07 on my first ride. It happens.

And I'm still not going to read the stupid manual. Ain't nobody got time for that. But if there's another button somewhere that makes the bike clean itself, someone let me know, mmmkay?

I Love the S and T mode on the FJR. Keep it mostly on the S mode, except when wifey is on board.

On my 2013 Super Tenere, the S mode, was difficult to modulate smoothly so I left it in T mode, except when riding on tarmac aggressively.

On my FJ-09 I kept it on Standard and it was still very twitchy. Sport mode was extremely twitchy. Touring was ... blah.

The FJR on either mode is so well fueled and easy to modulate...Wow!

Even though I was, I think, the first to chide you for not reading the manual I was just messing with you because I’ll admit that I don’t read them either.

I do use it for a reference but reading that thing complete with attorney-including warnings is not going to happen. Even if I did try to read it, there's no way everything would stick. I'd be riding along and be trying to remember what the book said about that switch.

Before buying a new bike I do read all the road tests I can find. That's where I read about the mode switch.

Like rszk, I keep mine in S mode virtually all the time. I can't tell any difference in driveability except it's a little easier to ride smoothly in stop-and-go traffic in T mode when I'm tired.

I'm just having fun. I tagged my thread 'derp' and thought really hard about putting it in NEPRT. Maybe I should have saved it for a Friday...

When I bought my 15 I knew about all the features before I even got on it as I had researched it prior to purchase. I did , however, read through the manual as there is a lot of information on how to use the features that I didn't know about.

Yeah. I could tell from the tone of your opening post that you were pokin' fun at yourself

After almost 500 miles, I'm beginning to remember to shut off the turn signals.
I owned an '06 Night Rod for about a minute. I really miss those auto-cancelling turn signals. If some savvy vendor could offer me those and some backlit buttons for the Gen III FJR, my wallet would be much lighter.

Not to chide you -- because you're a brother Georgia FJR rider -- i've read the manual three or four times, and (thanks bad memory) break it out often to check on things. Helps with the little details that I don't use often.

When you find that auto-cleaning button, please show it to me! If somebody has an aftermarket version, post up!

(Dude, we ned to do a metro RTE after football season, and run an FJR parade around the entire Perimeter.)

My Atlanta-area Residents Manual says to avoid the Perimeter at all costs.

But I'm always down for an RTE in the NC mountains. I know all the good places. Well, two or three really, but that's plenty.

I think I read the manual for my '03 at least a dozen times waiting to be let out of the hospital after my previous bike lost a fight with a Camry. I actually showed the salesman a few things he didn't know when I arrived with the insurance money and picked up the FJR. :D

Interesting the feedback on the few different other models that have elec throttle input control....

I utilize both S&T frequently....

The FJR with both modes is very well tested and implemented. Both settings are pretty refined.

From what I noticed, the FJ-09 was also pretty smooth in the different throttle settings.

The FZ-09 not so much..... needs some work to smooth things out...

You'd think Yamaha would get this down consistently through the different platforms...

When I first got my '13, I tried "S" mode and scared the sh*# outta' me! Rode in "T" mode for 2 or 3 months after that, and was happy with it. Got a wild hair, and decided to go back to "S" mode. That was roughly 2 years ago, and I haven't looked back. When I'm with pillion, or in heavy rain in slow speeds, I'll flip it to "T" mode, but I live for "S" mode, and couldn't care less about saving tires or gas mileage. To me, it's money well spent. A lot less than a psychiatrist. :)

I prefer T. Sport is fine, it just maps the throttle up a little faster. Requires more finesse in stop and go. Same power available in both modes.

I don't know how any of you can cruise around in T mode for any length of time.....feels like someone is strangling the bike!

I think the bike is perfect on Sport mode ...and if anything still a bit sluggish off idle. The fueling is very good in either mode for sure. Honestly, the only time mine see's Touring mode is in the rain.

With traction control I don't even use T mode in the rain. But then, the last two times I crashed were on wet pavement, so I'm a mite cautious in the rain ;)

I couldn't do it... I've always owned fairly powerful bikes and I expect them to move fast at partial throttle. But throwing it around the curvy roads in 2nd gear around 5K RPM, I think of it as giving me finer-grained control over the throttle. I don't need it taking off like a raped ape when I add a little throttle pulling through a corner... but the power is still there if I twist a bit further.

Sadly my plan to play with it on my home turf this weekend by the need for a new front tire that wasn't in stock at the dealer. "We should have your bike ready by Friday" has turned in to Wednesday :-(

On my '14, the bike feels the same in T as in S, it just requires a couple millimeters more throttle movement to achieve the same result. To each their own. Choice is good most of the time.

Same here. I get 50mpg easily in S mode when riding with my Goldwing buddy. I can ride more smoothly in T mode when I'm tired, but that's only because the throttle's not quite as quick off throttle.
