I'd give you a good deal (for me :) ) on a well used but sweet 05, so I could get me a black beauty. What the hell, we only are on this ride of life one time, buy the one you want. After amourtizing it for 4 years, not a big dif. Good Luck.

The other '08 updates are: Improved windshield, which you'll probably replace with an aftermarket unit anyway; and de-linked Brakes, which I don't believe is an upgrade.
they're dropping the linked brakes in 08? really?

WAIT A SECOND!

I was recounting what the Yamaha Sales guy told me, but you caused me to second-guess & research. This is the quote from Yammi's website:

"Standard equipment Unified Braking System w/ABS: The front brake lever activates six of the eight front braking pistons and one rear piston; the rear brake pedal activates one rear piston and the other two front pistons—for balanced anti-lock braking in all conditions."

So, I guess that makes the '08 FULLY Linked vs '07 PARTIALLY Linked.

Yamaha sales guys have just One Job...Seriously!

Your're not crazy. Go for it. I've ridden a lot of bikes in my life but mostly mid size and 750cc or less. In shopping I was looking at naked bikes, sport bikes, and cruisers. Was told by others to get at least 1000cc. Some of the cruisers out there are cool but quite big and heavy and I'm really not the pirate type. My wife insisted that if I get a bike tha I get one big enough to haul us both. That steered me towards the sport tourers. I bought the FJR in June 06 prearanged with the dealer (no deposit). They called me the day it came in. I had prenegotiated a price - out the door. Many dealers will lure you with a low price sticker then add setup fees tax lic warrenty....... I rode it home and although a bit nervous my first ride was easy and very comfortable and smooth. Once your rolling this bike is easier and safer to ride than any vintage 80/90's machine. The most difficult part is pushing it around the garage, parking, getting on and off. You have to be careful as the thing is top heavy. Buy a nice helmet , jacket, gloves, boots and just be careful and enjoy! I've also found that riding with good groups/clubs can be benificial as these guys are experienced, know where they're going, and following them will allow you to gain skills quickly...just don't ride over your head. Now that I've ridden with a lot of other riders with all kinds of bikes I have found the FJR to be one of the nicest motorcycles out there! Pick a color. You won't regret it.

Fourteener Rider,

My wife and I bought a pair of 2007 FJR's from Coyote Motorsports in Denver in September. They took $2000 off of MSRP on each of the bikes. We felt like they treated us very good, and we were happy with the whole buying experience.

John - thanks for the tip. I was in there about a week ago and frankly they didn't seem too impressive. But I'll reconsider based on your feedback. Do you mind my asking what your Out the Door price was? You can message me if you don't want to post it.

I waited 17.5 years....don't wait another day!

As far as model....I REALLY like the DK Cherry Cola.....never thought I would. Farkling and personalization will happen....YOU HAVE NO CHOICE!!

I used to like black more than Johnny Cash, but (maybe I am one sided), the red is the shit!

A little more on my journey to the FJR...

the process

Enjoy!!

Honestly, I wouldn't buy the 08 unless you like black. If you do go with the 08, I have 2 letters for you D&H

Just put down $500 on an 08 at D&H Cycles in Cullman Alabama. Price is 11,999 plus tax and title. They are a great group of people to work with . It is a family operation and will treat you like a King. I'm in Nashville Tn and will recieve sometime in Feb 08. They will install any farkle you desire as long it is not a cruise control (liability issue.) I would do it all again in a heartbeat. It's the best transportation deal I have ever had. Wish you luck. :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

I'm from Golden, CO, just down the road from you.

I have a 2005 that I bought from Excel Motorsports. Excel Yamaha has been purchased by a family and the combined Yamaha, Kawasaki, Victory, etc. dealer moved about a mile east on Colfax on the south side of the street.

I can't tell you anything about the new dealership, but Excel was just OK to deal with. They were pushy and wanted to add all sorts of costs to the list price. I walked out the door after telling them I had to think it over during lunch. They called me and knocked off the dealer prep, paperwork processing costs (the biggest piece of BS), and $800.

If I were to get an '07 or '08, I would shop around the various dealerships. Sun Motorsports is good but only carries Honda and Kawasaki.

Feel free to email me. We could set up a time when you could take a look at my bike and see what I think are the important accessories.

Regards,

Ron
