model & years of the FJR's

I am coming off of an 02 FZ1, sold it 6 mos ago, I put 20K miles on it with no issues, then I'd figure to try a lighter bike, went with an 07 SV650S it is ok for 100 mile ride or so, then my knees and butt need a rest, at 63yrs I did not know how comfortable the 02 FZ1 was till I put 5000 miles on the Sv650S, so I am thinking of the FJR, either new or used in the silver grey color, I have heard that there were some issues with the engine ( valve guides)and some heat problems. not sure what years they were, but If I go with a used one what years were the improved ones and no known problems, also coming from the FZ1 does the FJR feel much heavier, how are they in slow traffic ect, I am in the NEPA area, anyone know of any good deals on new or used.

Chet, Before the Forum police chastise you for not searching for your answers, welcome to the board. There are many searches you can do to find your answers. Gen 1 bikes have a reputation for ticking sounds from valve guides which have been addressed in the Gen 2 bikes (06 on). The search feature on the board is pretty much useless so go to google and type in bin of facts, fjr ticking, tires, oil filters, heat issues (addressed on Gen 2 bikes).

The FJR is a good bike with some niggles as are all others. Idle speed is critical to avoid stumbling. Pretty good leg room, comfy with a good aftermarket seat. Most people want higher bars and get them with risers. I myself would prefer lower bars that so far no one has done.

As I told a questioner (early-on, when my FJR was new): "It's a big-ish, heavy-ish, shaft-drive touring bike. Yet, a very sporting one -- in comparison with others of that genre."

It doesn't really compare with the two bikes you've listed -- other than it's a motorcycle..... :blink:

I seem to want to tell prospective riders/buyers, "If you're not planning on crossing state boundaries on a regular basis -- there may be better choices...." :huh:
