Moonshine ride report: We rode, we ate, then we rode, then we ate...
Seriously, the ride on Wednesday was very different from the ride in on Thursday. On Wednesday I rode form Harrisburg NC to Harrison OH where I meet up with Brian Hiley and Rob Wilensky for Skyline Chili coney dogs. The weather all the way was clear and it was 77 degrees all through KY. Thursday we were 230 miles out and planed lunch at Wagner's Village Inn in Oldenburg IN. We left the hotel to find 45 degrees, light rain and fifty, yes fifty mile per hour cross winds on a wet road.
Fifty mile per hour side wins make it interesting but fifty pile per hour side winds on a wet road will bring about a pucker factor. Luckily, during lunch the rain quit and we went the last 170 miles on dry road but still had the wind. When we got to the hotel, we all agreed that we felt like we had the stuffing beat out of us. I could hear Terry Hammond's voice in the back of my head saying "how do you like me now". My response was "love you brother, thanks for the challenge".
After that the weather was kind of disappointment. Sunshine, fifty something degrees and wind on Friday but none on Saturday. Friday, after lunch at Jason Garver's shop, (Illinois people really can cook barbecue, even for North Carolina people), we had to take a little ride for about seventy miles to enjoy some more mid-western wind and some ice cream and fountain cokes at Dicks pharmacy in Arthur IL. On the way back we had to make a detour through Gay's IL to see and photograph the two story outhouse that is the center of the community.
We didn't even have frost on Saturday morning and all I could think is the Terry gave us a break. Thanks Terry. All in all, another great Moonshine Lunch Run made possible buy the many hands in Casey and in the area who really care about us and make this happen every year to keep the annual gathering of "those who get it" alive. Many thanks to all who worked to keep it alive.
I left the Moonshine Store at 9:00 AM CDT Saturday and got home in Harrisburg NC at 9:15 PM EDT. Traffic was mostly light an I didn't encounter any wrecks. 733 miles and many more smiles.
