You know, I haven't seen a single picture of that bike without the side bags (well, except for the cut-away picture).

With that fattie of an exhaust, it doesn't look like it'll be that attractive sans bags.

About freakin time they got some specs up.

Still, noticably missing horsepower and weight. What's up with that? They can give a torque spec, but no horsepower? And they haven't figured out the weight? I am starting to think these Kawi people are idiots.

So, I am a bit disappointed by the tank capacity. That's a big step down from the old Connie's 7.5 gallon tank. And compared to FJR and ST1300, it's lacking.

100 lb-ft of torque sounds good, but I am assuming that is at the crank, and not at the rear wheel. Anybody have any guesses to what rear wheel torque might be? And what is the FJR's spec again? 85 lb-ft at the rear wheel?

FJR's rear wheel torque =~ 88 lb-ft.

The Concours' horsepower may not be any higher than the FJR. Its torque peaks at 6,200 rpm versus the FJR's 7,000 rpm. Typically one sees higher horsepowers when the torque peaks at higher rpms. Depends on how rapidly and how much the torque drops off after reaching its peak.

With the VVT, the torque curve can start eariler, and continue to build at higher RPM's.

Hmmmm. This motor has VVT and +154 more cc's. Compression ratio is only 10.7:1 (what is the FJR's?) Torque peak is a little lower than the FJR, and I would have to believe the redline the sams or lower than the ZX. Assuming the torque curve is relatively similar above this, I would venture to say peak hp will be in the low 150's at ~8500 rpm.

I am quite dissappointed by this number, and the gas capacity is borderline. That was an engineering trade-off, as in the ZX, the tank is mostly airbox and the fuel cell continues under the seat.

Nothing is going to matter until we see how much this thing weighs.

SkooterG: Absolutely agree with you mi amigo on that 5.8 gallon tank. What a design blunder from the Kawasaki Engineering Department to build a world class sport touring motorcycle and then hobble it with a fuel capacity 1.7 gallons less than the original Connie. You won't be riding this between El Rosario and Guerrero ***** without stopping to see our old friend Emilio in Catavina, with the four 55-gallon gas drums in the back of his 1963 Ford pickup truck! At the very least I thought that they would match the BMW R11xx RT and FJR's capacity of 6.6, or shoot for the 7.5 size of the new BMW R1200RT.

Concours = 1352 cc

FJR = 1298 cc

Difference = 54 cc

FJR CR = 10.8 : 1

Concours = 10.7 : 1

From the photos of the Concours taken at various shows the tachometer redline is 10,500 rpm.

Even tho I've been a Kawasaki Fan since the mid 80's, I don't think this is the one to move me away from the FJR. I just love the total package that Yamaha put together in the FJR, and at this point it just doesn't look to me like the Concours 14 is going to be the Dragon Slayer.

Looking at pics taken at Datona Speedway last Sat., I was impressed by the new Concours on display as well as all the other manufacturer's bikes. That single large exhaust seems too much, but rest of touring bike looked awesome.

Wada maroon! :rolleyes: It's called, 'marketing hype'. You know, kinda like the 3 friggin' painful months that precede the SuperBowl. Or, to put it into Casa Grandese; "Isslak when y'all goes down ta da dump an' spread aroun' sum chicken gizzards ta bait dem big ******' rats befores ya shoots dey ***** full of lead!"

:grin:

haven't seen many front/rear pics...so here goes.
