For those who don't know how it works:

The qualifying lasts an hour, the riders are allowed to go on and off track as often as they like, and usually come in to change tyres every few laps. It usually hots up in the last 15 minutes of the hour when the qualifying tyres come out and the really fast times are set.

The 125's have 15 minutes to go from the time of this post the MGP bikes will probably follow.

Bradley Smith (Brit 16 yr old) was on the last lap of the session and ready to set pole. He high-sided and landed flat on his back in the penultimate corner. He didn't move for a while but the assumption was he was just winded.

He remains 5th. DeRosa took pole.

JB can you put the keys for Rhode Island in the post?

Heavy rain at Mugello until 3 hours before this qualifying session so it's all on this session.

Rossi has a new helmet design with his face on the top of the helmet, so when he has his head on the tank it looks like he is staring ahead.

Fastest ever lap here was Gibernau on a 990cc at 1:48.969 Lests see if it gets beaten.

Tady Okada is trying out the Honda air valve engine as a wild card. He is in Repsol colours. He has had a big crash already and the bike stopped dead this morning. Nicky & Danni may be able to ride the air valve engine at the next GP depending on the feedback from Okada.

The tyres are fairly even with 3 wins to Bridgestone 2 to Michelin but Mitchelin have whitewashed Bridgestone in qualifying. The riders are allowed 18 fronts and 22 rears for the weekend. Because the running has been wet so far this weekend they have plenty of slicks to choose from.

34 minutes to go Edwards has pole Capirosi then Rossi

25 To go Edwards still pole, Nakano 12th

28 to go Edwards1st Rossi 2nd Lorenzo 7 Stoner 8 Hopper 9 Hayden 10 Tose 11 Melandri 16 even though the 4 Ducatis are the fastest through the speed trap.

Edwards already beaten the Gibernau 990 time.

Both Ducati test riders were injured so they drafted in Michael Schumacher

23 to go Edwards still pole on 1:48.785

22 to go Toseland goes 2nd. Tech3 1st & 2nd on the grid at the moment........ rain threatening.

21 to go Rossi takes 2nd

Lorenzo Stoner & Hayden still on 4th row so they need to get a wiggle on before the rain starts, huge black clouds over track.

19 to go Hayden 12th Pedrossa 11th Lorenzo can only make 9th at the moment

18 to go Capirosi 4th Vermulen 8th impressive from the Suzukis as they are down on power....Pedrossa goes 3rd.

Lorenzo still stays sat on the bike whilst tyres being changed so must still be in pain with his feet.

15 to go Rossi goes pole by .4 capirossi 3rd.

Edwards predicts a 1:47.8 will take pole

13 to go Hayden jumps to 7th Stoner still only 6th Hopper 11th Okada 15th

Top speeds around 205mph all 4 Ducati's lead on top speed but 3 of them are 16/17/18 place on timing sheets.

11 to go Pedrossa goes 4th Vermulen goes 6th

10 to go Stoner goes 4th

8 to go Edwards is on a wild lap stays 2nd

Rossi turns round and beckons to Capirossi who is behind him both on a slow down lap because Capirossi had waited for Rossi then got a tow off him. It is a sore point when a rider does that.

4 to go De-Angelis 7th Lorenzo on a hot lap can only manage 6th now racing back to pits to change tyres.

3 to go 13 bikes on an out lap 3 in pits having new tyres fitted. Stoner goes out with 2 minutes and 38 seconds to go will get 1 flying lap.

2 to go Rossi looking fastest all bikes out on track now

Hayden looking very loose back end everywhere

Rossi 1:48.130 First Pole for Bridgestone this year.

Stoner

Edwards

Hayden

Hey, that was fun! Since we don't get qualis here, you can do that every that race. :D

How 'bout that Capirossi? Unexpectedly great. I guess the tow helped.

How 'bout every Duc except Stoner? Why do they suck so bad this year?

Rossi's new helmet is hysterical.

Feejer, you are the Man! Thank you. Very exciting. Keys to Rhode Island in the mail--soon.
Jb
Can any of us pick colony states that we have nothing to do with to give back for favors? I'd like to send Maryland or Virginia back, if I can think of something I need. . . . .

And thanks for the post Feejer!

Send 'em over guys, we have a large quantity of invaders from Eastern Europe and the far East that in my opinion need a new home.

Just to make you jealouse guys, I am watching the morning warm up session as I write.

The weather is bright sunshine but rain is forecast for the race. Someone been on the track over night and put some graffiti on the track.

Morning warm up times (in my experience) are only relevant to those who move up the order. The others say 'it's only a warm up session, it's not relevant'. So make what you will of the times.

Mamola (who commentates for Eurosport) was quoting from a Toseland interview he did yesterday. Tose said that he is very grateful to Edwards for all the help he has given him. They work completely as a team and share all data.

With 8 minutes of the 15 minute session to go Rossi still fastest Ped second Stoner 4th Hayden 5th.

Melandri 12th in warm up, the synopsis is that they won't sack him, the 2 other Ducati riders (besides Stoner) are all slow so it's a bigger problem that Ducati have to address than just Melandri.

The times don't change the grid positions set yesterday.

Rossi has won the last 6 GP's at Mugello, get a bet on if you can!

Final warm up times:

DeAngelis 1:49.633

Pedrossa

Rossi

Stoner

Capirossi

Nakano

Hayden

Edwards

Toseland
