We'll see Joe. I saw some of their gear at the AIM/EXPO last year, and it looked like quality gear. As always, this stuff can be hit and miss.

 
yup, with the possibility of CA getting some El Nino driven Wx this winter, I've also been thinking about some rain gear for my commute. Existing gear is pretty good for my little 30-40 min daily commute (First Gear Kila jacket and Motorport pants, no liner). However, the Motoport pants are 10 yrs old and will need some minor repairs soon and I'm just ready for a second set of dedicated riding over-pants... and with some good water-proof characteristics. Unfortunately, I'm very tall and with a 38" inseam my choices are small (zero really, for off the rack).... so I just ordered a pair of Aerostich AD1 pants in 36Long. The folks at 'stich say the can fit me so assuming the initial fit is good and I move on with alterations, these may be $500 pants by the time I'm done! I believe Motoport also offers some light-wt rain gear pants that would go over my existing Motoport pants and I may explore that as my compact carry-along option.

Frogg Togg Horny Toadz pants are great. Many miles of rainy riding, many more of using them to keep the chill off. Never tried their jackets. Do the motocentric pants have zippers on both hips and up to the knee on both legs for quick donning over boots? If so, I may pick up a pair.

Just watched the video. I may get one of these. I hate the rain liners. they are hotter and a pain to put in and take out on the side of the road.
You say this and all I can picture is us stopped on the side of the road last year, after running the Dragon, in a heavy downpour, and huddled under the bushes donning liners lol.

Joe, if it wasn't raining so hard, I would've taken pictures of you... in the woods trying to put your liner in. It didn't matter at that point... all of us were soaked.

 
I got them in and the thecket seems great. The pants are just the typical plastic type suit. The jacket is the same but with a mesh liner. Looks like it will be good for rain but hot.

 
If I recall correctly, pants have zipper up to mid shin, that's it--Just enough to get the pants on over the boots and boot covers. The set works great for cutting through cold wind, too. Functional and affordable for rain gear.

 
I've got one all season waterproof riding jacket (sedici). But I wear police motor leather or non-waterproof textile riding jackets most of the time. My primary rainjackets (5.11 3-in-1 hi vis's) that I put on over most of my stuff are no longer fully waterproof. I'm going to cave and try one of these. The Horny Toadz have zippers up past the kneecap, and are super easy to get on and off with big *** boots on. My expectations for these won't be quite as high. My old Toadz are still pristine on the outside, but the lining is about gone. I've ridden in a monsoon every day this week. If I don't break down and take the truck soon, I may grow gills.

Avoid it if you can. Ordered. Received way quick. Way before Amazon estimate, which was next week. Quality is okay. But sizing is jacked up. I wear XL. When I plan to wear an item over a full coat, I buy XXL. The XXL I received isn't big enough to to fit over a tshirt if you're riding a motorcycle. Body is a little small, but the cuffs don't reach my wrist bones with hands on the grips, and again, that's wearing a t-shirt. Edited to add- pants are true to size, zero pockets, but this is a budget priced item. Zippered slots in the legs are for show. Boots must come off to put these on or take them off. But that's not a big deal for what equates to 20 buck rain pants. Go cheap, don't complain I guess. After reflection- these are being returned.

I have the Firstgear two piece raingear and it's been good for years, put is more pricey. I guess you get what you pay for.

 
I have the First Gear "Rain Man" two-piece with stow-in-the-collar hood. Very nicely featured and, so far, water-tight and tested in Washington on the Northern Cascade (and elsewhere). In fact, they may be over-featured: the top and bottom each have a built-in stuff sack which doesn't allow for maximum compression, and the draw string hangs out of the back of the jacket - stupid design. I have cut the stuff sacks off and tightly roll both pieces, secure with great big rubber bands and stow in the tank bag. I think these are about $125. One thing I really like about this suit is the liner membrane that helps keep you from getting too sticky, but also greatly aids in getting this suit on and off with ease. Often we get a little rain-damp before resorting to the suit. Even with riding gear slightly wet or damp, this suit slides right on. I ordered XL and the top is a little tight when I'm layered up and wearing the Joe Rocket Ballistic. In hindsight, I would order an XXL top and XL bottom. You'd have to talk to First Gear directly for this. One poster said his wife wanted a one-piece... Is she sure of that? My wife had a one-piece and struggled - every time - getting it on and off. I usually had to assist. She loathed it. Finally she gave it away and went with a good two-piece and is much happier now.

I have a Tour Master Elite III Rain Jacket & Tour Master Elite III Rain Pants - Jacket about $100, Pants about $60,

I have an XXL Top and an XL Bottom which fits my 42" waist and fat ***.

I bought The Jacket one size large to wear over my Tour Master Transition II Jacket which used to be waterproof but is not torrential proof.

The XL pants fit over my Transition II pants as well.

I've found that it is easier and faster to put on the rain suit than it was to stop, take off the Transition pants, put the waterproof liner, then get back into the pants and the boots etc...

The Rain Suit ensemble keeps me very dry as long as I remember to put them on before it starts raining.

The rain hood that goes on under ones helmet and keeps the rain from running down ones neck is quite a benefit.

The pants have a good heat protective panel on the inside of the legs which have prevented melting on pipes both on the FJR and on my previous Road Star Warrior which was a much more likely candidate.

Good Gear at a reasonable price.

 
Top
