Indy local news channel 8 announced on this evening's news, that it seems

likely that the IMS will host MotoGp in 2008. Hope it's true! :yahoo:

Personally i have been to all the Motogp races at laguna Seca. This is a magnificent track to watch races. You can walk around and watch the race from many different points. I watched the USGP F1 race as well as the 500 and was stuck in a seat in a grand stand watching most of the race on a jumbotron.

Plus Nicky has won both and Rossi still rides with great trepidation.

No on Indy yes on Laguna Seca.

If they do, and the track layout stays the same as F1, there will be tire changes. Or, a new track layout with limited time on the oval?

Well, you could always buy an infield ticket instead of a grandstand seat. You still get the Jumbotron, and you can wander around a lot more. And it's less expensive. For the 500, I think a grandstand seat is the right choice, if you know which ones to choose. If they had a bike race there, I'd go infield. It would be interesting to have MotoGP at the Indy venue.

I sure as hell hope not. That'd be a crappy track to race the GP on, gimme hills and valleys anyday, It's already a boring race to watch when the AMA guys race there. There needs to be elevation changes IMHO. Indy's like that track in Quatar, all flat and pretty boring IMHO. High banked speedway doesn't count as elevation.

Yamaha has invested millions +++++ in Laguna, in just the last couple of years. I can't see them switching tracks, I'm sure Yammie'd have something to say !

The AMA doesn't come to Indy. Why would Laguna Seca not still take place? Several countries have multiple rounds.

Reports I've seen other places seem to indicate that the Indy race would be in addition to Laguna Seca.

I don't see mamayammie letting go easily after all the ca$h dropped on Laguna...with an American Champ..two races Stateside sounds plausible...

I might need to schedule two "business" trips this year. :)

Why would they do this when the Barber Facility is available? Multiple elevation changes, perfect surface and a ready made facility for motorcycle racing. This must be political.

I've heard that Barber is considered too small for MotoGP. I only live a little over

an hour from Indy, but I would rather go to Barber for this race than Indy. Indy

is an ugly city and hospitality versus any southern city is lacking. But I'll definitely

go if it comes here.

I've ridden to Cali 3 times from Ohio to watch the GP and MotoGP's run but I'd SURE ride the 2 hours to Indy to watch 'em! I spent a week in the Wisconcin Dells because they said they were gonna bring GP to Road Americia and then didn't. I think there's enough interest and they could get a BIG crowd. Look at the crowds they get for AMA and Vintage Days at Mid-Ohio. I've not been to any races at Indy but if they bring it there I'll be there.

+1...... what a great facility Barber is, and the museum alone is worth a visit to the place. :clapping:

Does anyone have a map of the proposed Indy road-course layout? I can't imagine they have the kind of safety runout areas that other tracks have so there might have to be some serious upgrades done to accomodate Moto GP. Perish the thought that one of the motorcycles/riders ends up bouncing of the energy absorbing walls on the main track.

Indy has the worldwide name recognition as a selling point in comparison the the AMA races at Daytona that have a reputation within a rather small community (Compare AMA races to Nascar). Probably why Barber wasn't chosen, as lovely a facility as it is. Also, I would think the grandstands at Indy offer a better view of more of the track.

Politics? Do you really think that politics and other influences have anything to do with a decision like this? <_<
