The bikes have been reduced to 800cc this year in the interest of safety, they are already going as fast as they were last year, (201mph in practice). The difference is that because they are smaller their corner speed is much quicker, (don't ask me why, just quoting). Braking 15 Metres later!!! This means that the corners (where all the accidents happen) are faster......................safer??? nope.

so what your saying is they are getting rid of the liter bike class? and if thats the case are they going to stop making liter bikes and start making peppier 800cc bikes for street use? Only say that because they race whats in production right?

It will be an intersting season for sure. I'm looking forward to it.

As for stopping production of liter bikes...just speculation, but I doubt it.

The manufacturers have a lot invested in tooling and technology and the 1K bikes are popular and selling. To start up a new line with the technology to make them as fast as street liter bikes would be expensive.

The scenario I hope for is a new line of 800cc bikes (remember when they all made 750's AND 1000cc bikes?) to complement the lineup. Suzuki has the great GSXR750 but the class was generally abandoned. And they have done similar stepping of the cruiser market from 750 to 1100 to 1300 to 1600 to rediculous....

All speculation, but more bikes would make my world go round faster.

They have already done it.

This year all MotoGP bikes have to be 800cc. Kenny Roberts Snr recently said in an interview that he could forsee in the near future that MotoGP would be 600cc as the technology is allowing them to go so much faster all the time.

This will not affect road models. Not long ago the premier class was all 500cc 2 stroke. The change to 1000cc four stroke made no difference to the models available. The removal of 2 strokes from the market was an ongoing thing when the move was made to get rid of them at the top GP class.

(There are still obviously the 250 and 125 classes).

My info. could be bad, but I thought the MotoGP bikes had to be of a minimum weight, and the 800cc bikes basically weigh the same as the liter bikes. Also, the MotoGP bikes have to be proto-type bikes, and may or may not develop into production bikes.

Pretty much correct.

Hey Feejer222... it's so nice to have another MotoGP fan on board besides Randy, Warchild and others. I am SO STOKED about MotoGP this season. If you ever make it to the colonies, I'll give you a place to crash if you want to go to the SuperBike races in Birmingham.

Thats a fantastic offer mate thankyou very much. I would love to visit, been once about 20 years ago. I feel lucky that we have the MGP and Superbikes so close to hand. Also that we dont have to travel far (as far as you guys) to watch our national championship.

We are sponsoring a rider for the 4th year this year, Brian Campbell. (2nd Year with Bryan)https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php?showtopic=17310He is in the British Superstock Cup. 1st. Race is 9th April at Brands Hatch. Me and the wife are counting the sleeps!!!
